NANLITE Forza 150B Released – Portable Bi-Color COB LED Spotlight

NANLITE has recently unveiled the new Forza 150B, a bi-color COB LED spotlight with a compact form factor. The light offers an adjustable CCT range (2,700-6,500K), a native FM mount, 12 built-in lighting effects, and support for Bluetooth/2.4G/DMX connectivity. It is now available for purchase for $539.

After releasing the Forza 60C as well as the extremely powerful Forza 720 and 720B earlier this year, NANLITE’s celebrations for their 30th birthday are far from over. Indeed, the company has just announced the new Forza 150B, which sits next to the existing Forza 150 released last year.

Built on the legacy of its daylight-balanced sibling, the new Forza 150B appears to be a flexible option for filmmakers on the go looking for a travel-friendly fixture for lighting in confined spaces. Let’s take a closer look.

NANLITE Forza 150B: overview

The new NANLITE Forza 150B is a portable bi-color COB LED spotlight with a low power consumption of 170W. The fixture is 100% dimmable and its color temperature is adjustable between 2,700 and 6,500K. Furthermore, it offers 12 built-in lighting effects with adjustable parameters (such as intensity, CCT, and speed).

According to the manufacturer, the Forza 150B can output 23,130 lux at a distance of 1 meter when using the included reflector and setting the light source to 5,600K. These are very good results for a product of this kind. Also, for this light, NANLITE claims color accuracy scores of CRI 96, TLCI 98, and TM-30 Rf Average 93/Rg Average 102.

The lamp head features a proprietary FM mount for attaching accessories. Furthermore, the included Bowens Mount adapter opens up the possibility of using a wide variety of propriety and third-party lighting modifiers, including softboxes, lanterns, and Fresnel lenses.

Design, power and control

The new Forza 150B features an all-in-one design, meaning it doesn’t require an external ballast to work. The lamp head is built out of a mixture of metal and carbon fiber. In its lightweight (1.56kg/3.44lbs – without protective cap) and portable (247x133x115mm/9.72×5.24×4.53”) body, it also integrates a cooling fan system that should ensure silent operations (~20dB).

The fixture can be powered in a traditional way, using the included AC adapter and 4.5-meter power cable. However, an even more portable setup can be achieved using an optional hand-held battery grip that can host 14.8-26V V-mount cells for firing up the light.

A number of different methods are available to control the fixture. Indeed, the back of the unit hosts two knobs, a button, and a display for onboard control. Moreover, the Forza 150B supports Bluetooth, 2.4G, and wired DMX/RDM control and is compatible with the NANLINK APP (iOS/Android).
