Portkeys has recently released the BD1, a switchable, double-sided, NP-F style dummy battery that is easy to use and has straightforward installation. Essentially, it allows you to simultaneously power two NP-F compatible devices, like a monitor and a wireless video transmission system, using an external DC or USB-C power source. It retails for about $30, so let’s take a closer look at it!
Chinese manufacturer Portkeys specializes in manufacturing high-definition monitors, electronic viewfinders, and related accessories. Particularly, most of their monitors can be powered using Sony NP-F style batteries, the same used by many wireless video transmission systems.
For this reason, the company recently developed the BD1, a small dummy battery module that can help you build a convenient monitoring setup. Let’s take a quick look!
The Portkeys BD1 is a lightweight module (76 g/0.17 lbs) that can power two devices using Sony NP-F batteries from an external power source. The dummy battery is made of plastic, and the orientation of the dual NP-F interfaces is adjustable to fit different monitors and wireless video transmission systems. Indeed, the two NP-F sides can be disassembled and the angle between them can be easily adjusted.
Regarding power, the device has a dual input input interface, namely a DC 7 to 16.8V, and a USB-C 9V/12V/15V. The DC Output is 7~16.8V/3A on one side and 8V/1.5A (regulated) on the other.
The Portkeys BD1 is now available to purchase from Portkeys’ website for $29.90.
How do you power your monitor and wireless video transmitter? What do you think of the Portkeys BD1? Would it be helpful for your setup? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
