We first had the chance to see the Sigma AF CINE LINE 28–105mm T3 prototype at IBC 2025, and the launch date has now been set for April 16th, 2026. This full-frame cinema zoom covers a very practical focal range in a single lens and combines cine mechanics with a zoom design more familiar from still photography. This positions the lens as a good option for productions working across a wide focal range without frequent lens changes.
We first covered the lens when Sigma officially announced the development of the 28–105mm T3, and later saw the prototype alongside the company’s autofocus cine zoom concept, which combines traditional cine operation with autofocus. Since then, the lens has been one of the more anticipated additions to the AF CINE LINE, mainly because it brings this focal range into a cinema lens design.
A 28–105mm range covers a large part of everyday shooting. It moves from a moderately wide field of view into a short telephoto, which makes it useful for interviews, documentary work, corporate projects, and smaller narrative productions. In many of these situations, reducing lens changes matters more than using the fastest possible aperture. A zoom that spans this range makes it easier for crews to move quickly while keeping a consistent look, especially when working with limited time or smaller teams.
Within Sigma’s cine lineup, this places the lens between traditional prime sets and larger cine zooms, offering a more compact alternative for many productions.
The Sigma AF CINE LINE 28–105mm T3 is priced at $3,399 / €2,676.43, and is scheduled to launch on April 16th, 2026. It will be available in L-Mount and Sony E-mount. The lens ships with the Front Cap LCF-82 IV, Rear Cap LCR III, and Lens Support Foot SF-91. For more information, please see SIGMA’s website.
How important is autofocus in a cinema zoom for the work you do? Do you prefer a flexible zoom like this or working with primes in this range? Let us know in the comments.

A camera was put in my hands at 16, and I’ve been taking photographs ever since. Before moving to Vienna, I worked as a photographer on film sets, telling stories as they unfolded behind the scenes. Since then, I’ve focused on immersive theater, both as a photographer and an actor. I am the photographer for the award-winning Nesterval ensemble, documenting the energy and atmosphere of their performances. I’m a teller of stories. Stories hold my interest. I’ll take on any project with a story to tell.
