SIRUI IronStar 1.5x T1.9 Anamorphic Full Frame Cine Lens Announced

SIRUI has just announced an interesting lineup of 1.5x anamorphic lenses: the IronStar. These cine lenses cover full-frame image sensors, they have a maximum aperture of T1.9, they feature a user-interchangeable PL/EF lens mount, and three focal lengths will be available at launch: 35mm, 45mm, and 60mm. So, let’s take a closer look at these!

After joining the L-Mount alliance earlier this year, SIRUI continues to expand their lineup of anamorphic lenses with the announcement of a new series called IronStar. These anamorphic lenses will join the company’s 40mm autofocus anamorphic lens, the compact Saturn 1.6x anamorphic lenses that we previously reviewed, and the Venus 1.6x anamorphic lens.

SIRUI IronStar 1.5x T1.9 anamorphic – features

The SIRUI IronStar is a series of 1.5x anamorphic full-frame cine lenses, consisting of three lenses: a 35mm, a 45mm, and a 60mm, all with a T1.9 maximum aperture. According to the company, more focal lengths should be available soon, including a 75mm, 100mm, and 135mm, also at T1.9.

Each lens will be available in two flavors: a blue ring for blue lens flares and a silver ring for neutral lens flares. These lenses are not front or back anamorphic lenses, as SIRUI decided to put the anamorphic elements in the middle to reduce size and weight, which is quite rare and unique to the IronStar.

The lenses feature user-interchangeable PL and EF mounts. To change the lens mounts, all you have to do is remove the four screws at the back of the lens, swap the lens mount, and put the screws back in. As the lenses have a back adjustment ring, you don’t need to shim them.

At the bottom of the lenses, you’ll find a removable lens support that features two 1/4″-20 mounting points. Each lens weighs approximately 1kg/2.20 lbs, so extra support is welcome to relieve some stress on the camera’s lens mount.

Each IronStar lens features 0.8 MOD focus and iris gears, which are positioned identically between every lens, allowing for quick lens swaps without needing to adjust the position of your follow focus or matte box. The focus throw is long at 270°, which is ideal for achieving precise focus pulls.

The SIRUI IronStar has a quite unusual 92mm front filter thread but a standard 95mm outside diameter for clamp-on matte boxes. The aperture diaphragm features 16 blades.
