SmallRig has announced the XTouch X99, a new “triple-proof” V-mount battery designed for filmmakers working in challenging environments. Set to ship on May 30, 2025, this $299.99 power solution brings several innovations to the battery space, focusing on durability, control, and user feedback.
The X99 battery features an integrated 2-inch HD touchscreen display with an anti-glare coating, allowing users to monitor battery levels and control individual ports. Each port can be independently toggled on or off via the touchscreen interface, which SmallRig says helps prevent unwanted battery discharge during storage or transport.
Durability appears to be a central focus of the design. The battery offers 1.5m (4.9ft) drop resistance with silicone shock-absorbing corners and carries an IP54 waterproof and dustproof rating. SmallRig has also incorporated internal flame-retardant silicone seals to further protect the unit in harsh conditions.
The X99 delivers 99Wh of power (14.54V / 6800mAh) using eight LG 18650 cells with 3400mAh capacity each. It supports a maximum output power of 100W and can be fully charged in approximately 2 hours via the 100W USB-C PD ports. The battery has a cut-off voltage of 11.2V and operates across a relatively wide temperature range of -15°C to 60°C for discharging and 0°C to 45°C while charging.
SmallRig has equipped the X99 battery with comprehensive power delivery options. The battery provides two D-Tap ports, dual USB-C ports with 100W PD 3.0 input/output capability, one USB-A port delivering up to 30W, dedicated 8V and 12V DC outputs, and a BP battery plate interface. This range of connections aims to accommodate various production needs without requiring multiple adapters.
For mounting, the X99 incorporates both 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threaded holes in addition to the standard V-mount plate, enhancing flexibility for different rig configurations.
Perhaps the most distinctive feature is the battery’s integration with SmallRig’s SmallGoGo mobile app, which already controls their RC-series LED lights. Through the app, users can monitor battery levels remotely, control individual ports, locate batteries via a flashing indicator light, update firmware, and label and manage multiple batteries across a production set.
According to SmallRig, this app functionality directly addresses a pain point for production utilities that need to track multiple batteries across large sets. Rather than physically checking each battery’s status, crew members can manage their entire power inventory from a tablet or smartphone.
The XTouch Smart Triple-Proof V-Mount Battery X99 is currently available for pre-order at $299.99 and will begin shipping on May 30, 2025. The package includes the battery and a 240W USB-C charging cable.
SmallRig appears to be taking an iterative approach to the product’s development. The company is actively collecting customer feedback at trade shows and through their Facebook community group about potential future variants, including a Gold Mount version. Following their established product philosophy, the X99 will receive firmware updates based on user feedback, continuing the company’s focus on evolving their products after release.
