Sony has overhauled two pillars of its Creators’ Cloud ecosystem. Monitor & Control (v2.4.0) now reaches Mac and scales multi-view to 20 cameras on Premium plans, while Creators’ App (v3.1.0) speeds camera-to-cloud handoff with direct Ci uploads, smarter transfers, and clip-level reviews. Together, the updates aim to replace piecemeal monitoring and file-shuttling with a unified, tiered workflow that fits solo shooters and production video villages alike.

Beyond headline features, the interesting shift is operational. Sony Monitor & Control‘s (on Google Play Store here, and Apple App Store here) expanded monitoring, controls, and metadata tools sit closer to capture, while Creators’ App reduces hops between card, phone, and cloud. The result is fewer accessories to manage, clearer take tracking, and faster paths from lens to timeline.

What Monitor & Control changes on set

M&C now runs on Mac for single-camera monitoring at no cost, with multi-camera on Premium plans. Productions can build a single interface up to 20 cameras, which suits everything from two-camera interviews to larger livestreams. The app adds HDMI/UVC high-resolution monitoring on compatible Xperia devices and the Sony PDT-FP1, assignable clip flags for OK or NG marking, snapshots that embed shooting data, and refined framing tools including Cropping & Framing on smartphones, Focus Map picture-in-picture, horizontal flip, and full-screen live view during vertical monitoring.

Supported bodies, as listed for this release, span BURANO, PXW-Z300, PXW-Z200, HXR-NX800, FX6, FX3, FX2, FX30, and Alpha models including α1 II, α1, α9 III, α7R V, α7S III, α7 IV, plus ZV-E1. Latest firmware is required.

What Creators’ App changes between capture and delivery

Sony Creators’ App v3.1.0 focuses on transfers and cloud (on Apple App Store here and Google Play Store here). Supported cameras can upload directly to Ci Media Cloud without using a phone (check out how we used Ci Media Cloud during IBC 2023 for content production here). Shooters can now continue recording while media moves to a phone or tablet over Wi-Fi or USB, which reduces downtime and duplicate copies. Transfers resume after interruptions, differential transfer avoids resending unchanged data, and clip-level previews let you send only what is needed.

Support lists are model and firmware specific. Direct Ci uploads include FX3 (v6.02+), FX2, FX30 (v5.02+), and α7S III (v4.00+). Transfer-while-shooting spans a wider range, including FX3 (v6.00+), FX2, FX30 (v5.00+), α1 II, α1 (v3.00+), α9 III (v3.00+), α7R V (v3.00+), α7S III (v4.00+), α7 IV (v4.00+), α7CR (v2.00+), α7C II (v2.00+), α6700 (v2.00+), ZV-E1 (v2.00+), RX1R III, and ILX-LR1 (v2.00+). Clip-preview support includes FX3, FX2, FX30, α7S III, α7CR, α7C II, α6700, and RX1R III.

Cloud storage tiers include 5 GB for all members, 25 GB for Sony camera owners, plus paid 100 GB and 500 GB options.

Tiers, pricing, and what each plan unlocks for Sony Monitor & Control

Monitor & Control is offered in three tiers. Free covers core wired or wireless monitoring, exposure and focus controls, markers, de-squeeze, iPad multi-camera, Cropping & Framing, and assignable flags. Basic adds Snapshot, synchronized setting changes across cameras in multi-view, HDMI/UVC high-resolution monitoring for Xperia, and up to 10 Cropping & Framing presets. Premium enables Mac multi-camera and scaling up to 20 cameras.

Practical implications for different teams

Solo creators: single-camera Mac monitoring and transfer-while-shooting remove friction. Clip-level previews and resumable transfers reduce wasted bandwidth and missed shots.

Small crews and agencies: multi-view on iPad or Mac allows client or producer monitors without a full DIT cart. Assignable flags and snapshots with embedded data help keep takes aligned between camera, script notes, and editorial.

Schools and broadcast programs: supervising many cameras from common devices becomes simpler. Tiered plans mean facilities can right-size features to classroom or studio needs.

Compatibility notes and caveats to check before updating

Mac support for M&C is free for single camera, multi-camera requires Premium, and macOS support is listed as 14.7 to 15.3. HDMI/UVC high-resolution monitoring is a paid feature limited to Xperia and Sony PDT-FP1. Assignable flags are currently supported on FX3 and FX30. For Creators’ App, direct Ci uploads are not saved in Creators’ Cloud, and long uploads can power off the camera, so power management matters. Monitor firmware dependencies closely since features vary by body and version.
