SWIT has released the FM-U245HDR, a 23.8 inch 4K HDR monitor for field production and live broadcast use. It delivers 1000 nit brightness, multiformat 4K and 8K inputs, and a wide range of on-board monitoring tools built for real-world production conditions.
SWIT has provided monitoring, power, and wireless solutions to film and broadcast professionals since 1996. We previously featured the SWIT K15 and K21 field monitors models release, and our first look at those same units. They’re generally known as a budget-brand, but one that offers a fair amount of value.
The FM-U245HDR supports a wide range of input formats through 12G SDI and HDMI 2.0, with quadlink compatibility for both 4K and 8K workflows. The display includes HDR and SDR gamma settings and supports Rec.709, Rec.2020, and DCI-P3 color spaces. Each input can be configured with its own LUT and gamma settings.
Monitoring tools include waveform, vectorscope, histogram, parade, CIE scope, zebra, false color, focus assist, and anamorphic de-squeeze. Up to 13 user LUTs can be loaded via USB-A. The monitor supports 16-channel audio metering with stereo monitoring and surround visualizations.
The display comes mounted in a flight case with a sun hood, acrylic screen protector, top-mounted cheese plates, and a detachable light stand rod. Power options include V-mount battery, XLR DC, or standard AC input.
The SWIT FM-U245HDR is designed for use in studio, field, and live broadcast environments. It offers low-latency signal processing and remote configuration via Ethernet. TSL UMD tally support is available, along with optional IP video formats depending on configuration.
The more eyes you have reviewing what’s being captured on set, the better off you are. Whether it’s a director checking performance, a DIT evaluating image integrity, or a client watching framing, having a reliable monitor helps avoid surprises later. Camera viewfinders and onboard displays often aren’t enough.
In fast-paced environments, for example, having scopes, LUTs, and multiple inputs visible at once helps keep everyone aligned. Furthermore, quadview and picture-in-picture options lead to fewer interruptions and quicker decisions. Ultimately, it is not just about brightness or size; it is about getting the image in front of the people who need to see it when they need to see it.
A 1000 nit display is more than enough for studio or interior use, and will handle most shaded or overcast field situations without issue. But on bright, sunny days, it may still struggle with visibility depending on positioning and glare.
If you’ve ever shot outdoors in the early 2000s, you probably remember pressing your face into a sun hood, squinting to make out details on a washed-out screen. This monitor is a big step up from that experience. Still, for direct sunlight, users may find themselves angling the case, throwing up flags, or using additional shade to get a clean view.
The FM-U245HDR brings a wide set of monitoring tools into a durable package designed to support modern workflows. It provides flexible input options, detailed image analysis, and practical hardware design that suits a wide range of production setups.
The SWIT FM-U245HDR will be available at B&H and CVP soon. At the time of writing, it lists for €3,999 and ships with the flight case, sun hood, acrylic screen protector, mounting rod, and all necessary hardware for immediate use. Prices may vary slightly by region or configuration.
