SWIT PowerCell Battery Series Announced – Dependable and Cost-Effective

Camera batteries may not create such a hype as some other film gear, but they are essential. Original manufacturer packs are dependable but costly, while many third-party versions fail to meet the needs of working filmmakers. However, at IBC 2025, SWIT introduced their PowerCell series, a new line designed to deliver OEM-level reliability at a more approachable price.

SWIT has built a reputation across batteries, monitors, lights, and wireless video systems, with a steady focus on practical power solutions for filmmakers. Earlier this year, they introduced a USB-C dummy battery line aimed at streamlining power delivery for smaller cameras, and the new PowerCell series continues that push into everyday production gear.

Built for professionals

The SWIT PowerCell range uses Panasonic cells, the same class of internals trusted in original batteries. That choice targets long lifespan, consistent output, and improved safety. SWIT also says the PowerCell design avoids the sudden shutdowns that plague cheaper options by providing a smoother discharge curve and a more accurate runtime display on the camera.

SWIT PowerCell compatibility

The first release in the SWIT PowerCell family will cover four of the most widely used formats:

• Sony NP-FZ100 (FX3, FX30, Alpha 7 and Alpha 9 series)
• Canon LP-E6P (R5 C, R5 Mark II, R6, R7, and more)
• Nikon EN-EL15c (Z8, Z9, and compatible Z-series bodies)
• Fujifilm NP-W235 (X-T4, X-T5, GFX100S, GFX50S II)

Additional formats, including Panasonic batteries, are in development.

Final thoughts

The SWIT PowerCell series aims to give creators a dependable and cost-effective option in a crowded third-party market. Over the last five years, I have grown so accustomed to charging professional batteries over USB-C that I now see it as a basic necessity. Not having to carry a bulky two-position V-mount charger has been a game-changer, and while this is not the only mirrorless battery to offer USB-C, I am glad to see more companies adopting it. I also tend to lose the smaller chargers for mirrorless cameras, so USB-C feels like the obvious solution.

With professional-grade internals, USB-C convenience, and competitive pricing, the PowerCell could be an attractive alternative for those who want to move away from expensive OEM packs. CineD will share updates once final pricing and availability are confirmed.

Price & availability

Original batteries from Sony, Canon, Nikon, and FUJIFILM typically sell for about €70–80 ($75–85) each. SWIT says the PowerCell line should come in at roughly €45–50 ($48–53), which represents about a 40% savings. For filmmakers who need several batteries per camera, that difference could add up quickly without sacrificing reliability.
