Teradek Prism Mobile Backpack - Adds up to Four 5G Node Modems for Robust Stream

Teradek Prism Mobile backpack enhances the previously announced Prism Mobile 4G LTE encoder by adding up to four additional 5G Node modems. That allows users to stream up to 6 cellular connections simultaneously. The fully equipped backpack starts at $7,990.

When it comes to wireless video encoding, Teradek offers a wide range of products and the company has been in this field for ages. Earlier this year, we reported about Teradek’s new Prism Mobile 4G LTE wireless video encoder. Now, Teradek has launched a Prism Mobile backpack to accompany and enhance the product, so let’s take a short look at the details.

Teradek Prism Mobile 4G LTE wireless video encoder

The previously announced Prism Mobile encoder is a bonded cellular streaming solution that is designed to mount directly to the back of the camera with either a Gold Mount or V-Mount interface. It is sandwiched between the battery and the camera and includes two onboard internal 4G LTE modems with switchable SIM slots. The Prism Mobile has 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 input connectors to accept 4K video streams from the camera. It can then send up to 10-bit 4K HDR 4:2:2 H.265 or H.264 video stream with low-latency to Teradek Core or RTMP/RTSP/SRT to servers and CDNs.

The newly announced backpack for the Prism Mobile has multiple functions. It expands Prism Mobile encoder to stream from 2 to 6x Node Modems simultaneously as it can add up to four additional 5G modems (using 5-pin connectors). This makes the video stream much more robust and can be useful in problematic locations.

It is available with three different modem configurations:

  • 4x Node 5G modems
  • 2x Node 5G modems
  • 2x Node LTE Modems

When it comes to power, as I stated above, the Prism Mobile encoder itself accepts either Gold Mount or V-Mount batteries. The backpack with the additional Node modems requires external power from a standard PTAP adapter, Gold, or V-Mount battery plate. Please note, that 26V is not supported.

Price and availability

Teradek Prism Mobile backpack comes included with one Prism Mobile encoder (Gold or V-Mount), a backpack bonding assembly with cabling, up to four 5G Node modems (depending on the version), all the necessary multi-band antennas, and a 3.0A PTAP power supply.

The Prism Mobile backpack sets can be pre-ordered now and there are four different configurations:

  • Teradek Prism 859 Mobile Backpack (Gold or V-Mount) without Node Modems costs $1,590
  • Teradek Prism 859 Mobile Backpack (Gold or V-Mount) with 2x 4G LTE Node Modems costs $7,990
  • Teradek Prism 859 Mobile Backpack (Gold or V-Mount) with 2x 5G Node Modems costs $8,990
  • Teradek Prism 859 Mobile Backpack (Gold or V-Mount) with 4x 5G Node Modems costs $9,990

For reference, the Prism Mobile encoder sells for $4,999.
