Tilta Nikon Z 9 Full Cage and Kits Released

Tilta has released their full cage and kits for Nikon’s flagship mirrorless camera, the Z 9. The cage wraps all around the camera, it features multiple cold shoe mounts, NATO rails, and 1/4″-20 mounting points across the cage, while the bottom plate is Arca-Swiss compatible. Let’s take a closer look at all these new rigging options for the Nikon Z 9!

The Nikon Z 9 was announced back in October last year, and the least we can say is that this flagship Full-Frame mirrorless camera impressed us during our review. In a nutshell, the Z 9 can shoot internally in 8K at up to 30p, 4K at up to 120fps, and upcoming firmware updates will allow for it to record 8K60p 12-bit ProRes RAW and 12-bit N-RAW video internally!

SmallRig was one of the first third-party accessories manufacturers to launch its cage for the Z 9. It took some time for Tilta to finally release their full cage and kits for the Nikon Z 9, but the complete ecosystem looks promising!

Tilta Nikon Z 9 cage features

Let’s start with the core of this system, the aluminum alloy full cage that wraps all around the camera. This cage is relatively lightweight at only 265g/9.3oz.

It attaches to your camera via one 1/4″-20 screw at the bottom of the camera and firmly locks the Z 9 in place via two screws in the camera’s strap eyelets.

On top of the Tilta Nikon Z 9 cage, you’ll find multiple 1/4″-20 mounting threads with locating pins and a cold shoe mount on the right side.

You’ll find a NATO rail with three 1/4″-20 mounting threads on the left side, while the right side also gives you several mounting points and another cold shoe mount.

There is a built-in Arca-Swiss plate at the bottom of the cage, which is natively compatible with the DJI Ronin RS 2. If you’re not in the Arca-Swiss environment, the base of the cage features 1/4″-20 threads and a magnetic screwdriver.

The front and back of the cage feature mounting points that are compatible with Tilta’s optional single or dual 15mm Rod Holder attachments. This means you can attach 15mm rods at the front/back of the cage – at the correct height from the center of the lens – without the need for an additional baseplate!

Basic and Pro kits

In terms of the Nikon Z 9, Tilta has also released a Basic and a Pro kit. The Basic kit includes a top handle and the 15mm dual rod holder.

The Pro kit consists of the cage, the 15mm dual rod holder, a powering side handle with Rec/Stop, and a 19mm baseplate, which is ARRI dovetail compatible.

Price and availability

The Tilta Nikon Z 9 Cage is available for preorder now for $89.10. The Basic kit is $134.10, and the Pro kit is $377.10. All products should start shipping in two to four weeks.
