Hot on the heels of Sony’s FX2 announcement, we thought it would be valuable to share some information about the V780H-EVF HDMI compact viewfinder. After all, this budget-friendly EVF might be a “good enough” solution for filmmakers looking to upgrade their cinema camera from an LCD-only device to something a bit more flexible and user-friendly.
There are several EVF solutions on the market, but nothing this affordable that we’ve seen before. Now, to be completely transparent, we don’t know the company behind this product, nor have we touched/tested it ourselves. However, according to multiple sources who have purchased this device and contacted us, report that the video monitoring capabilities of this unit are surprisingly good, especially for the price. So, let’s take a look at it!
The V780H-EVF viewfinder features a 0.7-inch OLED display with a full HD 1920×1080 resolution via HDMI input, housed in a durable metal body. It operates on 5V power supplied directly from the HDMI connection, drawing 500mA during operation. It seems as if this power-efficient design often eliminates the need for separate battery systems.
The optical system incorporates a 42mm diameter eyepiece with 12x magnification, providing a 55-degree field of view. Users can adjust diopter settings for prescription correction and control brightness to suit various shooting conditions. The 20mm exit pupil supports comfortable, extended viewing sessions.
Temperature tolerance ranges from -30Β°C to 60Β°C, suggesting the V780H-EVF can endure tough environmental conditions. Its aluminum housing offers protection against dust, shock, and high temperatures, all while remaining lightweight enough for handheld and mounted use.
The V780H-EVF ships with a hot shoe adapter and includes an HDMI extension cable. Its 24-bit color depth input supports standard video signals commonly output by digital cameras and recording devices.
