VILTROX NF-Z Released – F to Z-Mount Autofocus Adapter for Nikon Mirrorless Cameras

VILTROX NF-Z Released – F to Z-Mount Autofocus Adapter for Nikon Mirrorless Cameras

The recently-released VILTROX NF-Z is a new option for adapting F-mount lenses onto Nikon Z series mirrorless cameras. The adapter offers support for EXIF data transmission, lens VR stabilization as well as eye and face-detection autofocus. It is now available for $139.

The Nikon Z mount ecosystem of mirrorless cameras and lenses is rapidly expanding, offering great tools for both photographers and filmmakers. The Nikon Z 9 is one of the most capable hybrid options on the market in my opinion and the company is constantly releasing new products in this series. Their latest additions are the vlogging-oriented Nikon Z 30 and the NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S super-telephoto lens.

Although Nikon already offers their proprietary FTZ II adapter, Chinese company VILTROX has recently released the NF-Z , a more affordable option for mounting F-mount glass onto Z mount bodies. Let’s take a closer look.

VILTROX NF-Z: F to Z-mount lens adapter

The new VILTROX NF-Z makes it possibile to mount F-mount lenses onto Nikon Z mirrorless cameras. According to the manufacturer, the design of the adapter enables full communication of EXIF data between the lens and the camera.

Moreover, the VILTROX NF-Z offers support for lens VR (vibration reduction) stabilization as well as eye and face-detection AF. However, the adapter should be tested on the field to see how it actually performs against the FTZ II.

The unit measures 79x71x35mm and weighs 145g/5.1oz.. This means is a little heavier than Nikon’s proprietary option (125g/4.5oz.). The adapter features a matte treatment on the inside to prevent ghosting and unwanted flares as well as a 1/4″-20 threaded hole at the bottom for use with heavier lenses.

Moreover, as new Z mount cameras and lenses are released, the VILTROX NF-Z’s firmware can be upgraded using a dedicated USB-C port. Here’s the list of currently compatible lenses published by the manufacturer.
