At IBC 2025, CineD once again presented its Best-of-Show Award to the most innovative and impactful filmmaking tools on display. This year’s winners highlight the industry’s shift toward smaller cine cameras, better interoperability, and more accessible professional solutions across every department of production.

The CineD Best-of-Show Award honors products that push the craft forward in meaningful ways. Our editorial team evaluated dozens of announcements and hands-on demos at the show, selecting tools that genuinely stand out for their innovation, practicality, and impact on working filmmakers.

As a reminder, manufacturers had to submit their nominees to be considered for the awards in various categories, because it’s impossible to otherwise get an overview of what’s being shown in total at the show, even though we are shooting dozens and dozens of videos about products at each show. Manufacturers have no influence or prior information about CineD’s choices until they get handed the award towards the end of each trade show.

Winner – Audio equipment – Saramonic TC-Neo Kit

The Saramonic TC-Neo Kit (announcement article here) introduces a compact, multi-sync-capable timecode solution. With precision drift control, Bluetooth and UHF syncing, and a charging case that powers and syncs three devices simultaneously, it simplifies multi-camera sound workflows. We awarded it for making professional-grade timecode management affordable and accessible.

Winner – Camera (entry-level cinema) – Nikon ZR

The Nikon ZR represents the first true product of Nikon’s acquisition of RED. Supporting internal R3D, N-RAW, and ProRes RAW HQ, it combines RED’s codec heritage with Nikon’s ergonomics and hybrid-friendly design. We awarded it for breaking ground at an accessible price point while offering codecs previously reserved for much higher-end systems.

Camera (high-speed) – Pixboom Spark

The Pixboom Spark (article here) is a compact, affordable high-speed camera that records continuously at up to 2,182 fps. With a Super 35 global shutter sensor, 4.6K open gate recording, and direct SSD capture, it eliminates the stop-and-dump cycle of traditional high-speed systems. CineD selected it for making extreme slow-motion cinematography far more accessible.

Camera (pro compact) – Canon EOS C50

Canon’s EOS C50 (IBC article here) is the smallest Cinema EOS camera to date and the first in the line with open gate recording. With 7K open gate 3:2 capture, Canon RAW internal and a small footprint, it balances portability with versatility. We selected it for bringing high-end Canon features into a compact, budget-conscious form factor that suits documentary, broadcast, and indie productions.

Camera support & accessories – KipperTie LCminiND

Developed with LC-Tec, the KipperTie LCminiND brings electronically controlled ND filtering to drop-in cartridges (article here). With 2–7 stops of variable density and Bluetooth control, it promises faster exposure adjustments without external filters. We selected it because it demonstrates how electronic ND could soon be a standard feature across cine and mirrorless systems.

Camera support & accessories – Manfrotto ONE Hybrid Tripod

The Manfrotto ONE Hybrid Tripod (article from BILD 2025 here) was designed for crews who need to switch between stills and video without carrying two systems. Its quick-release adjustments and carbon-fiber build allow seamless transitions. CineD chose it for its pragmatic design that addresses the reality of today’s hybrid productions.

Camera support & accessories – Viltrox NexusFocus PL-E Adapter

The Viltrox NexusFocus PL-E Adapter (article here) shocked attendees by enabling autofocus on PL lenses mounted to Sony E bodies . Eye AF, tracking, and iris control all work seamlessly. We chose it for its disruptive potential: it allows filmmakers to use existing PL glass with autofocus functionality, reducing the need for complex LiDAR or wireless focus setups.

Lenses – DZOFilm Vespid Prime II

DZOFilm’s Vespid Prime II series (article here) builds on its popular predecessor, offering 20% less weight, faster T1.9 apertures, expanded format coverage, and Cooke/i metadata support. CineD recognized it for pushing affordability and practicality further, especially for independent filmmakers who need a full prime set that doesn’t compromise on quality or usability.

Lenses – SIGMA AF Cine Line

SIGMA’s AF Cine Line (article here) is the company’s first step into autofocus cinema zooms. By combining traditional cine housing with fast, reliable AF, it bridges the gap between manual cine control and modern focusing demands. We awarded it for boldly introducing autofocus into the cine lens space, a feature that can transform documentary and fast-moving production workflows.

Lighting equipment – Astera SolaBulb

Astera’s SolaBulb (article here) disguises itself as a simple household bulb but packs a Fresnel-style zoomable beam (15–50°) powered by the Titan LED engine. It delivers accurate color, wireless control, and versatility as both a practical and a key source. We selected it because it redefines what a practical light can do on set, offering unprecedented control in a tiny package.

Monitors & recording – ASUS ProArt Display OLED PA27USD

The ASUS ProArt Display OLED PA27USD (article here) is built for filmmakers and colorists who demand accuracy and reliability. Its 27-inch 4K OLED panel covers 99% of DCI-P3, 99.9% sRGB and 97% AdobeRGB, with true 10-bit depth, HDR up to 1,000 nits, and factory calibration at ∆E < 1. A built-in calibration tool ensures consistency, while professional I/O including 12G SDI, HDMI 2.1, and Thunderbolt 4 makes it equally at home on set or in the grading suite.

The CineD Best-of-Show Award at IBC 2025 celebrates not just technical specs but the ways in which these tools empower working filmmakers. Whether through portability, smarter workflows, or pushing creative boundaries, these products stood out for us among hundreds of announcements at this year’s show.
