Zaxcom Nova Software Version 2.0

The Zaxcom Nova is a compact audio mixer/recorder that features 4 XLR mic/line “NeverClip” inputs and two line-level balanced inputs. On the digital audio side, there are four external AES inputs and six analog/AES output buses. Also, at the back of the unit, there are two optional module receivers slots. Each slot can receive audio from up to four separate wireless transmitters. The module receivers are fully integrated into the Zaxcom Nova, which means you don’t need any cables to connect your wireless receivers and the recorder. You now probably got it, the Zaxcom Nova is a high-end product made for professionals sound recordists.

Zaxcom is further expending the Nova’s capabilities with the release of software version 2.0, which adds:

  • This version increases the recording track count from 12 to 16. You can mix and record any combination of ISO’s or mix tracks to any of the 16 tracks.
  • Addition of the adaptive threshold Automixer algorithm. This feature automatically opens and closes microphones, so dialog is smooth with minimal to no background noise.
  • Support for the Zaxcom’s Oasis control surface for external linear fader control. Also, the Walkie Talkie interface lets you plug your Walkie Talkie into the Nova and use your slate mic and headphones for communication around set with integrated push to talk functionality.
  • A new mirror file list keeps a running list of all files mirrored for visual confirmation. Other new features include Sound Report generation while mirroring, the ability to disable unused home screen views, and better recognition of a variety of CF cards.

The Zaxcom Nova software version 2.0 is a free update, and you can download it on Zaxcom’s website.

Zaxcom Withdraws from NAB 2020

After Nikon and AJA, Zaxcom also withdraws from NAB 2020 due to the risks from the Coronavirus. Here is the full statement from Zaxcom:

Zaxcom is sad to announce their withdrawal from the NAB 2020 show in Las Vegas due to the risks from the Coronavirus, Covid-19. This difficult decision was made as a precaution to keep everyone involved as safe and healthy as possible.

Zaxcom has participated in NAB for over 30 consecutive years. “We greatly look forward to seeing our colleagues and friends from all over the world and will greatly miss that without a physical presence at this year’s show,” said Colleen Goodsir, Director of Sales & Marketing from Zaxcom.

Zaxcom is the fifth company to exit the Las Vegas show, after Nikon, AJA, Fox and TVU Networks. More importantly, the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, which was supposed to open its doors on Friday in Austin, TX, has been canceled due to the city’s fears of large gatherings as Covid-19 is spreading. NAB 2020 is still up at the moment, but for how long? The cinema5D crew will fly to Las Vegas as usual unless NAB is completely canceled. Even then, we will find ways to report about all the product news in the best way possible.
