ZOSS Expands OSMODO Rig Line for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 With Box-Style Housings

ZOSS has released two new housing systems for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 under its OSMODO line: a Pre-Built Box-Style Rig and a Box-Style housing Rig. Both are designed to give the compact gimbal camera a more robust, modular form factor, supporting filters, matte boxes, and multiple mounting points. Each comes with trade-offs in ergonomics and portability that filmmakers should consider when weighing their shooting needs.

From time to time, we come across a product idea that can be called genius—or, on the opposite end, not so much—and I guess the new OSMODO, a re-body of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 into a box-style camera housing, falls right into this category.

Who Is Behind ZOSS?

The OSMODO rigs are produced by ZOSS Media, a small U.S.-based creative and manufacturing studio run by Jeffrey Zoss. Alongside filmmaking services, the company has built a reputation for 3D-printed camera accessories under the ZOSS 3D label. The brand operates both zoss.media (creative services) and store.zoss.media (accessory sales). Zoss also maintains an Etsy shop with hundreds of sales, primarily focused on 3D-printed mounts and filmmaking accessories, with strong customer feedback. The company is based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and emphasizes small-batch, built-to-order production with typical 3–4 week lead times. Across social platforms, ZOSS positions itself as a hybrid creative studio and hardware maker, blurring the line between custom gear production and filmmaking practice.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 With Box-Style Housings

Yes, you read that right. Jeffrey took the very small and capable DJI Osmo Pocket 3 (review here and here) and created a box-style housing for it—essentially altering its original purpose as a ‘pocket-sized’ camera. Some will find this solution creative and helpful, while others may skip it entirely. Ultimately, depending on what and how you film, the usability of the product hinges on how quickly the Osmo Pocket 3 can be attached to or removed from the rig; the verdict—make or break—may depend on this

Two Box-Style products to choose from

Box-Style Pre-Built Rig

The Pre-Built Box Rig arrives fully assembled, transforming the Pocket 3 into a squared-off modular platform. The camera docks into a slide-in cartridge, ensuring consistent alignment and reducing reflections thanks to an integrated internal hood.

Key features include:

  • Front 82 mm thread (M82 × 0.75) for filters, plus support for 95 mm matte boxes.
  • Constructed from PETG with pass-through cable routing and a small internal bay for cable slack.
  • Dual side handles with ARRI-style locking pins, a NATO rail, and a top handle.
  • Seven ¼-20 mounting points with ARRI-lock anti-twist pin ports.
  • Included accessories: NPF plate and battery, mini tripod, MagSafe phone mount.

One limitation is that the OP3’s thumb controller and record button are obstructed inside the housing, requiring screen rotation or app-based control. At USD $649 (discounted from $699), the Pre-Built Rig targets users who want a turnkey solution without additional assembly.

Box-Style Rig

The Box-Style Rig adopts a slimmer housing with the same cartridge-based docking system. Like the box version, it integrates an anti-reflection hood and 82 mm front threading for filters and matte box compatibility.

Distinct features include:

  • A removable front lens housing allows for modular upgrades or operation without the extension.
  • Seven ¼-20 ARRI-lock mounting points, with an added Elgato Prompter adapter ring for teleprompter integration.
  • Compact PETG construction, but not compatible with the OP3 battery grip.
  • Recommended use with “Fast Follow” mode and slower pans to prevent vignetting from the housing edges.

Like the Pre-Built rig, the Box-Style rig blocks manual thumb controls, pushing operators toward app-based or external control.

Considerations for filmmakers

Both OSMODO rigs shift the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 away from its “pocketable” form and closer to a traditional camera build. This enables the use of pro-level accessories but sacrifices native ergonomics and compactness. For productions requiring heavier accessories, external power, or matte boxes, both rigs offer a structured path forward. However, for run-and-gun shooting, the added bulk may undermine the Osmo Pocket 3’s biggest advantage: portability.
