DJI Mic 3 comes with support for up to four transmitters and eight receivers, as well as precise timecode. It features an adaptive gain control, three voice tone presets, and two-level noise cancelling. Furthermore, the Mic 3 supports dual-file 32-bit float internal recording with 32 GB of TX storage, as well as automatic frequency hopping between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. On the downside, the Mic 3 does not have a 3.5mm lav mic input anymore.
Back in November 2021, with the announcement of the first DJI Mic, the Chinese tech company DJI entered the world of dedicated audio devices. By doing so, DJI started competing with the likes of RODE and other players in the field of affordable 2.4GHz wireless mic systems. A few generations and a couple of innovations later, DJI today announces the DJI Mic 3. Let’s take a look at what is new with the latest microphone system from DJI.
First, let’s talk about the transmitters (TX): Weighing 16 grams, the Mic 3 transmitter is fairly compact. The microphone angle can be flexibly adjusted with the detachable, rotating clip. It can be worn with either a magnetic or a clip-on attachment. The Mic 3 windscreens can also be purchased in five different colors to better match clothing or the environment.
On the downside, DJI got rid of the 3.5mm lav mic input on the TX units. You can only record audio with the built-in microphone. Does this mean a pro version with the lav mic input connector is coming in the future? I think that would somehow make sense, but we will have to wait and see.
The DJI Mic 3 system now supports up to four transmitters and eight receivers at once (additional transmitters and receivers are sold separately). When set to Quadraphonic mode, the Mic 3 Receiver—paired with select Sony cameras or computer software—supports independent output of four audio tracks. This enables precise track separation and flexible audio mixing.
As with previous DJI Mic sets, the all-in-one charging case holds two transmitters and one receiver. The good news is, this time the transmitters can be stored without needing to remove the windscreen and magnetic clip. There is also space for the magnets and locking cables.

Furthermore, there are three voice tone presets – Regular, Rich, and Bright. These can be helpful for interviews with multiple people with different vocal characteristics by boosting low frequencies to reduce muddiness or enhancing high frequencies to improve clarity. The two-level active noise cancelling can help reduce background sounds such as air conditioning.
The Lossless Audio feature enables the transmitter to deliver uncompressed 48kHz 24-bit audio directly to the receiver.
When it comes to the maximum range, Mic 3 functions up to 400 meters and features a strong resistance to interference, according to DJI. This is thanks to the automatic frequency hopping between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, ensuring more stable transmission.
In case there is an interference, each transmitter has the ability to record the audio internally. The Mic 3 TX supports dual-file internal recording, which saves both the original track and the algorithm-enhanced version. There are two internal recording specifications – either 24-bit or 32-bit floating point.
Finally, Mic 3 transmitters now offer high-precision timecode functionality, embedding timecode data during internal recording. DJI claims that within a 24-hour period, the timecode won’t deviate for more than one frame.
According to DJI, a fully charged Mic 3 transmitter lasts up to eight hours, while the receiver lasts up to 10 hours. The charging case provides 2.4 full charges, achieving 28 hours of extended use.
A five-minute quick-charge can power the Mic 3 for two hours, and 50 minutes is needed for a full charge. As DJI further claims, the Mic 3 offers multiple power-saving features to prevent the need for recharging:
Regarding direct compatibility with DJI cameras, the Mic 3, of course, supports the DJI OsmoAudio ecosystem. The mic system pairs with DJI Osmo 360, Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4, or Osmo Pocket 3 without a receiver.
To connect with other devices, the Mic 3 RX unit features a locking 3.5mm TRS output port, a 3.5mm TRRS monitoring port, and a USB-C port. It can also connect directly to smartphones via Bluetooth without a receiver.
