YC Onion Cedar CB7 Counterbalanced Fluid Head Released

September 12th, 2025Jump to Comment Section

At IBC 2025, Johnnie spoke with Hannah Han from YC Onion about their latest tripod head, the Cedar CB7. Designed with filmmakers in mind, this counterbalanced head combines multiple damping controls with a modular quick-release system, and it’s available in both right- and left-handed versions.

We regularly follow YC Onion and their tripod innovations at IBC. Last year, for instance, we looked at the lightweight Tako tripod with its one-way single-lock mechanism as well as the Pineta Pro monopod. This year, we see their latest development – a counterbalanced tripod head designed specifically for filmmakers.

Design and counterbalance

Hannah explained that the Cedar CB7 head provides ten dynamic counterbalance gears, six levels of tilt damping, and four levels of pan damping. This allows for smooth movement and the ability to hold the camera securely in position without drift. The tripod head weighs approximately 2.3 kg (5 lbs) and is primarily made of aluminum. It features a flat base, and with the included 75mm coconut ball head, it can also be mounted on tripods or sliders.

Locking mechanism and user versions

Another notable feature is the locking mechanism for tilt. Hannah told us that while the first design was made for right-handed users, YC Onion now offers both right- and left-handed versions, giving filmmakers flexibility to choose what works best in the field. She also highlighted the MQ45 quick-release plate, which follows the Manfrotto standard and includes a safety lock, while the camera plate itself is Arca-Swiss compatible.

Price and availability

There are two product versions: a basic set that includes the head, MQ45, and SQ45 plates, and another that comes with the additional 75mm coconut ball head. Pricing is set at $339 for the basic version and $385 for the version with the ball head. For those looking at full setups, the combo with the tripod is $829, while a new option with the PINETA PEAK Photo & Video Carbon Fiber Tripod w/ HD Tripod Feet is $669. The Cedar CB7 counterbalanced fluid head is available now. For more information, please visit the YC Onion website.
