Strada has expanded to mobile. The peer-to-peer platform that lets users access and share media directly between their own drives is now available on iOS and Android. With Strada Mobile, existing hard drives and folders are accessible no matter where you are, so you can access, preview, and export files wherever you are, without relying on the cloud. In June, at this year’s Cine Gear, we spoke with Michael Cioni, the co-founder and CEO of Strada, who outlined the challenges filmmakers face with traditional cloud services. Large file transfers can take hours, uploads stall mid-transfer, and recurring costs of cloud storage continue to rise. Strada was developed to address these pain points by keeping media on local drives while still allowing fast, remote access and collaboration.

If you’re new to Strada

Strada was originally launched as a cloud-free collaboration tool. It enables direct file access and transfer between computers using a secure peer-to-peer system. Instead of uploading to servers, it connects folders from local drives to your Strada account so they’re instantly available from any browser. You can share specific folders, control various types of permissions, and transfer files with a single click while keeping your media stored where it already lives.

Design and build

Strada Mobile links directly to your computer setup, extending that connected storage network to your phone or tablet. All your drives – RAID systems, networks, external SSDs – are now accessible within the app, mirroring what you view on a Mac or PC. Stream or transfer large files without having to download them to your device.

Performance and features

The new mobile version carries over Strada’s key advantages. Data streams directly from your own drives, cutting out upload and download delays. The company states that transfer times can be up to 100% faster, plus, there are no storage fees or limits with Strada. Your entire library is available on any device, and the app supports viewing, playback, and exporting while on the go, so teams can review dailies or pull reference clips from anywhere.

For filmmakers who handle terabytes of footage, Strada Mobile removes one of the last bottlenecks: remote access while traveling or on set. It keeps control in hand with customizable permissions that define who can view or copy specific folders. Media is delivered instantly – no uploads, no waiting. If you want to share edits or someone simply needs to preview material from home, the workflow feels local no matter where you are. Strada describes it as offering the experience of AirDrop without being in the same location.

Strada’s peer-to-peer architecture connects your drives directly to your devices, bypassing centralized servers. It won’t replace the cloud for everyone; backups and versioned archives still have their place. However, it offers a practical, elegant middle ground for filmmakers who want fast, private access to their own media libraries without ongoing fees.

Strada Mobile is available now on the App Store and Google Play. The desktop version remains free for individual use on Mac and Windows, with optional upgrades expected for collaborative or enterprise tiers.
