Simmod has just launched a new ARRI PL adapter with a user-swappable camera mount system that makes it compatible with Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and Leica L mount bodies. It is now available to purchase for $189. Let’s take a closer look!
Canadian manufacturer Simmod has long been known for its high-end lens modification kits, and last year the company even expanded into the lens market with the APSARA LUMIERE and PRESTIGE lens series.
Of course, their portfolio already includes a range of professional ARRI PL cine adapters for mirrorless cameras. This new 4-in-1 version, however, features a user-interchangeable mount on the camera side, making a single adapter compatible with multiple camera systems. We’ve already seen similar solutions from manufacturers such as Dulens or 7Artisans, so let’s see how Simmod’s version holds up.
The Simmod 4-in-1 PL Adapter features an aluminum construction and is CNC-machined with precision to ensure accurate flange focal distance. This purely mechanical adapter allows you to attach virtually any PL mount lens onto Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and Leica L mount cameras. Swapping out the rear camera mount is simple, as it only requires four screws to be removed using the included hex wrench.
On the front, the adapter features a gold, knurled Positive Lock ring with integrated tabs that should provide a solid grip when switching lenses on set. Overall, the adapter looks solidly built, and when it comes to quality standards, Simmod benefits from a strong reputation.
However, unlike other offerings from the competition, their 4-in-1 ARRI PL adapter seems to lack a threaded support foot at the bottom. This omission may be a drawback for users working with heavy lenses, where a support foot helps reduce stress on the camera’s lens mount.
The new Simmod 4-in-1 ARRI PL Lens Adapter set is now available to purchase with the official retail price set at $189. For more information, please visit Simmod’s website here.
What do you think of the new PL adapter from Simmod? Would you choose it over products from the competition? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
