MOFAGE has officially launched the second iteration of its POCO drop-in filter adapter. The MOFAGE POCO II retains the modularity of the original POCO, but adds an interchangeable PL/EF front lens mount, increased clearance for lenses with longer rear protruding elements, and a lighter, more compact design.
Introduced in 2022, the MOFAGE POCO was initially released as a budget-friendly PL mount adapter for mirrorless camera systems with an integrated, drop-in variable ND. Still, it later evolved into a full ecosystem with new filters and camera mounts added along the way.
The original version quickly became one of the most interesting alternatives to using a front matte box, but has shown a few limitations, especially regarding compatibility with certain PL mount lenses. As a result, POCO II is here to address most of these shortcomings. Let’s take a look!
Just like the original, the MOFAGE POCO II drop-in filter lens mount adapter has a modular design with an interchangeable mount on the camera side that makes it compatible with Sony E, Canon RF, Leica L, Nikon Z, FUJIFILM X, and KineMOUNT systems. However, the front lens mount is now also swappable, and you can move between ARRI PL and Canon EF mounts.
The new version is cross-compatible with first-generation components, so if you’ve already invested in camera mounts and drop-in filters, you can keep using them. However, MOFAGE has also introduced a 2nd-generation VND module (still offering a VND range of 1 to 8 stops) as well as Clear, CPL, and effects filters to accommodate lenses with longer rear protruding elements. This increases the maximum rear lens clearance to 26mm, making the adapter compatible with lenses like the NiSi Athena and others that didn’t previously fit.
Lastly, the adapter is now noticeably lighter than its predecessor (238g vs 372g – including the VND), and comes in a more compact package (9x9x4.2cm vs 11.5×9.5×4.5cm).
The new MOFAGE POCO II Drop-In Filter Adapter is now available to pre-order from the manufacturer and authorized dealers, including B&H, and should start shipping by the end of July. The official retail price is $439 for the ARRI PL version and $339 for the Canon EF variant. The PL and EF front lens mounts are also available to purchase individually for $139 and $79, respectively. For more information, please visit MOFAGE’s website here.
