Second Reef CheckMate Products Introduced – Cable Tester, Battery Analyzer & Discharger

Launched at IBC 2026 and distributed by Second Reef, the new CheckMate product lineup consists of three tools – a Cable Tester, a Battery Analyzer, and a Battery Discharger – that can help rental houses and productions manage, test, and maintain equipment reliably and more efficiently.

If you’ve never heard of Second Reef, this German company specializes in distributing, and sometimes even developing, pretty unique solutions for high-end cinema. For example, they distribute the ingenious Bun-G-Ring and are the mind behind Coral Anamorphics.

Now, a new brand named CheckMate joins their one-of-a-kind portfolio, promising to make life easier for technicians working in the film and broadcast industries. Let’s take a quick look!

CheckMate Cable Tester – A modular testing station for video and power cables

Let’s start with the CheckMate Cable Tester, which is essentially a USB-C-powered station that allows you to test all sorts of cables and connectors, including Fischer, XLR, BNC, LEMO, and D-Tap. The device is available in two sizes – Size S and Size L -both featuring a high-brightness touchscreen IPS display and offering 4 and 12 connector pairs, respectively. Moreover, the system is expandable over time by adding 4-connector modules.

Testing a cable is as easy as connecting its ends into the appropriate connector modules, selecting the type of connector from the touchscreen display, and launching a test. The device runs advanced electrical measurements and checks for wiring mistakes, broken conductors, and intermittent faults, so you’re sure your cables perform as expected when most needed.

Battery Analyzer & Discharger for V-mount and B-mount batteries

On the other hand, the CheckMate Battery Analyzer and Discharger are designed to monitor the health of V-mount, 12V B-Mount, and 24V B-Mount batteries, as well as prepare these power bricks for storage and transportation.

The Battery Analyzer accesses compatible batteries’ Battery Management System (BMS), providing data about their State of Charge (SOC), remaining usable capacity, cycle count, and battery chemistry. This information can be critical when prepping for a large production or to make sure rental equipment is in good shape.

Lastly, the CheckMate Battery Discharger can help manage logistics, allowing you to prepare the batteries for transport safely and consistently. Simply connect a compatible battery to the device, set a target State of Charge (10/20/30%), and let the discharger do the work.
