Atomos Ninja TX GO Announced – 6Kp30 RAW Recording, Camera Control, 1500-Nit Display

Atomos has unveiled the Ninja TX GO, a new HDMI monitor-recorder that brings professional recording capabilities to mirrorless and DSLR shooters. This 5-inch touchscreen device features a bright 1500-nit HDR display, records up to 6Kp30 RAW over HDMI to CFexpress Type B or USB-C SSD storage, and supports Apple ProRes, ProRes RAW, Avid DNx, and H.265/H.264 codecs. The standout feature is integrated camera control (coming via free OTA update), allowing direct adjustment of exposure settings including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO on supported cameras from Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Panasonic, Sony, Z CAM, and other brands.

The new Atomos Ninja TX GO positions itself as the HDMI-focused sibling to the Ninja TX, which launched earlier this year with SDI connectivity and 8K RAW capabilities. While the TX model targets higher-end cinema cameras, the TX GO addresses the massive market of HDMI-based cameras while maintaining professional-grade monitoring, recording, and workflow features in a compact form factor.

The device combines advanced monitoring tools including EL Zone™, waveform, vectorscope, and focus peaking with the ability to record professional codecs directly from the camera’s HDMI output. For creators working with RAW-capable cameras, the Ninja TX GO captures up to 6Kp30 RAW, delivering uncompressed image quality for maximum flexibility in post-production.

What distinguishes this announcement from previous Atomos releases is the integrated camera control feature, which we’ll explore in detail below. Display and monitoring capabilities

The 5-inch touchscreen delivers 1500 nits of brightness, a substantial upgrade from typical camera LCD screens that often struggle in daylight conditions. This brightness level makes the Ninja TX GO viable for outdoor shooting scenarios where monitoring accuracy is essential for proper exposure and focus confirmation.

The monitoring toolkit includes professional-grade tools that cinematographers expect from external monitors. EL Zone™ provides exposure analysis, while traditional waveform and vectorscope displays offer precise control over luminance and color values. Focus peaking assists with manual focus operations, particularly valuable when working with cinema lenses that lack autofocus capabilities.

These monitoring tools operate independently of the recording function, meaning you can use the Ninja TX GO purely as a field monitor without engaging the recording features. The touchscreen interface provides quick access to these tools during production.

Recording formats and storage options

The Ninja TX GO records to either CFexpress Type B cards or external USB-C SSD drives, giving users flexibility in storage selection based on their workflow preferences and budget. Codec support spans the professional post-production landscape. Apple ProRes and ProRes RAW maintain compatibility with Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve workflows. Avid DNx integrations serve Media Composer editors. H.265 and H.264 provide delivery-ready formats with smaller file sizes, though at the cost of reduced color grading flexibility compared to ProRes or RAW options.

For RAW recording, the device captures up to 6Kp30 over HDMI from compatible cameras. This resolution and frame rate ceiling reflects the current HDMI 2.0 bandwidth limitations found in most mirrorless and DSLR cameras. The practical benefit here is capturing the full sensor readout before any in-camera processing, preserving maximum dynamic range and color information for post-production manipulation.

Camera control integration

The camera control feature represents a significant workflow enhancement for the Ninja line. Through the touchscreen interface, operators can adjust aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings directly on supported cameras from Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Panasonic, Sony, Z CAM, and other manufacturers. This eliminates the need to navigate camera menu systems during shooting, particularly valuable when the camera is mounted in positions where physical access is limited.

According to Atomos, camera control will be delivered as a free over-the-air update for both Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX units, with availability coming soon after launch. The company has not yet specified which exact camera models will be supported at launch, though the broad manufacturer support suggests extensive compatibility testing is underway.

For gimbal operators, aerial cinematographers, or anyone working with cameras in remote positions, this control capability streamlines exposure adjustments without breaking down rigging setups. The touch-to-focus functionality extends this convenience to focus control on compatible cameras, though again, specific model support remains to be detailed.

What about connectivity and cloud workflows?

Built-in Wi-Fi 6E enables camera-to-cloud operation, a feature set that has become increasingly important for remote collaboration workflows. The Ninja TX GO includes 20GB of free ATOMOSphere cloud storage and supports direct upload to ATOMOSphere, Frame.io, Dropbox, and other cloud services during or immediately after recording.

The device also supports NDI 6 and HX3 transmission and reception for IP-based streaming workflows. This allows the Ninja TX GO to function as both a streaming encoder and a remote monitoring endpoint when connected to NDI networks. For live production environments or multi-camera setups, this streaming capability extends the device’s utility beyond traditional recording applications.

USB-C connectivity handles both data transfer and power delivery. The Ninja TX GO can be powered via USB-C, traditional NP-F batteries, or AC adaptor, providing flexibility for different shooting scenarios. The locking cable system for both HDMI and USB-C connections addresses a common pain point with external recorders, where cable disconnections during recording can result in lost footage.

AtomOS platform and software updates

The Ninja TX GO runs on the next-generation AtomOS platform, built on a Linux foundation. This represents a departure from previous Atomos operating systems and enables over-the-air updates for both feature additions and bug fixes. The ability to receive OTA updates means the device can gain new camera support, codec options, and functionality improvements throughout its lifecycle.

The Linux-based architecture also provides a more stable foundation for complex operations like simultaneous recording, monitoring, streaming, and cloud uploads. Previous Atomos devices occasionally struggled with thermal management during intensive multi-function operation, so the new OS platform may address these concerns, though real-world testing will be necessary to confirm thermal performance.

Ninja TX vs. Ninja TX GO

For context, the Ninja TX (launched earlier this year) includes SDI input and output alongside HDMI, AirGlu wireless timecode synchronization, and expanded 8Kp30 RAW recording capabilities. These features target cinema camera operators working with higher-end equipment that typically offers SDI connectivity and generates 8K output.

The Ninja TX GO removes these cinema-focused features while maintaining the core monitoring, recording, and control capabilities at a lower price point. This positioning makes sense for the HDMI camera market, where 8K recording remains rare and SDI connectivity is non-existent. The device focuses on delivering professional recording quality and monitoring tools to the mirrorless and DSLR segment without adding cost for features those users cannot utilize.

Both devices share the AtomOS platform, meaning software features and camera control capabilities will be consistent across the two models. This unified approach simplifies support and ensures feature parity where hardware capabilities allow.

Pricing and availability

The Atomos Ninja TX GO is available immediately from Atomos resellers worldwide and the Atomos web store. Pricing is set at $799 USD, €799 EUR, £599 GBP, or $1,199 AUD, excluding local sales taxes and VAT.

The camera control feature will be delivered as a free over-the-air update for both Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX units, with availability coming soon. Atomos has not provided a specific release date for this update, though the announcement suggests it will arrive within weeks rather than months of launch.
