CVP Sony FX5 Hands-On Event Series Underway Across Europe – Here Are the Upcoming Dates

CVP has kicked off a European hands-on event series for the new Sony FX5, giving filmmakers a chance to get the sought-after Cinema Line camera into their hands before deciding on a purchase. The tour opened at CVP Fitzrovia in London on July 30, and it now continues through August with stops in Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin, Hamburg, Brussels/Vilvoorde, and Amsterdam. The free sessions are hosted by Sony ambassadors or CVP specialists, depending on the location, and advance registration is recommended.

The timing could hardly be better. The Sony FX5 was announced just over a week ago, and demand has been so strong that Sony has already warned of possible delivery delays after orders far exceeded the company’s forecasts on the first day of order acceptance in Japan. With shipping only slated to begin in mid-August, these events are one of the few opportunities to actually try the camera before committing to a pre-order. If you want to dig deeper first, our full Sony FX5 review with lab test results, our interview with Sony, and our Focus Check podcast episode with Philip Bloom cover the camera from every angle.

What to expect at the events

According to CVP’s announcement, each session is built around hands-on time with the FX5 in different camera configurations. Attendees can discuss complete production setups with the hosts, covering lenses, recording media, power, monitoring, audio, rigging, camera support, and transportation.

On the technical side, Sony ambassadors, CVP technical specialists, and technology partners will be available to discuss internal X-OCN RAW recording, including its Open Gate options, as well as S-Log3, exposure, monitoring, and practical camera-to-post workflows. In other words, this is less a sales pitch and more a chance to ask the kind of workflow questions that spec sheets do not answer, which is exactly what a camera with internal X-OCN recording deserves.

The hosting lineup is worth noting, too. Sony Ambassador Ulrich Mors leads most of the German dates, while Sony Ambassador Alister Chapman, a name many readers will know from his extensive camera workflow tutorials, hosts the Belgium and Netherlands stops. CVP specialists host the Stuttgart event and will also support the wider series.

Registration, extras, and FX5 availability

Beyond the events themselves, CVP has put together several FX5-related services. A free Sony FX5 Media Calculator is available online to help estimate recording-media requirements across different codecs, FX5 orders include one additional year of CVP Warranty+ coverage at no extra cost, and tailored finance options are available for eligible business customers.

The camera itself remains available for pre-order through CVP. The FX5 body only (ILME-FX5B) is priced at €5,400, while the version supplied with the XLR handle unit (ILME-FX5) costs €6,000. Both prices include VAT, with shipping expected to begin in August.

Will you be heading to one of the FX5 events in Germany, Belgium, or the Netherlands? And if you have already had hands-on time with the camera in London, what did you think? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments below!
