FUJIFILM has announced the launch of the FUJIFILM X-E5 rangefinder-style mirrorless digital camera. This camera combines the design and user experience of FUJIFILM’s X-E series with updated features from the X Series, including a customizable Film Simulation (FS) dial, in-body image stabilisation, a 40.2-Megapixel sensor with digital teleconverter option, and enhanced viewfinder capabilities. The company also announced a lightweight pancake lens, the FUJINON XF23mm F2.8 R. More details about the lens can be found here.
The camera integrates FUJIFILM’s fifth-generation digital imaging technology with classic design elements, striking a balance between aesthetics and functionality.
Lightweight and Compact: The X-E5 weighs approximately 445g (about 1lb.).
Single-Piece Top Plate: The top plate is machined from a single piece of aluminum, enhancing the metallic texture and operability of the dial while providing a smooth metallic finish and high rigidity.
The FS dial allows users to create and save custom FS recipes for FS1, FS2, or FS3.
The viewfinder and diopter adjustment control are flush with the body, retaining the essence of a traditional camera.
Inspired by retro film cameras, the X-E5’s rangefinder-style viewfinder (EVF) features a new Classic Display mode.
The X-E5 has a new Surround View function, allowing users to display a black, semi-transparent, or outlined area outside the image. The Control Lever on the front of the camera enables switching between these options. It also offers customizable functions, including changing aspect ratios and adjusting the digital teleconverter magnification.
The X-E5 has in-body image stabilisation (IBIS), a digital teleconverter, and video capabilities.
A new IBIS algorithm and an upgraded gyro sensor enhance camera shake responsiveness across five axes, offering up to 7.0 stops at the centre and 6.0 stops at the periphery.
The camera features a digital teleconverter function with 1.4x and 2.0x zoom options, allowing users to crop into the frame with minimal image quality loss.
Rear-tilting monitor
The LCD monitor can be flipped upward and forward-facing up to 180 degrees, accommodating a wide range of compositions and enabling selfies.
The X-E5 can shoot in up to 6.2K/30P resolution and features a tracking AF function during video recording. Equipped with the back-illuminated 40.2 megapixel X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, the X-E5 delivers high resolution while maintaining a high signal-to-noise ratio.
An improved pixel structure enables efficient light recording on the imaging sensor, unlocking ISO 125 as a native sensitivity. The electronic shutter can be set to a maximum shutter speed of 1/180,000 of a second. The X-E5 features AI-based subject detection autofocus, developed using deep learning technology to detect various subjects. According to the company, the latest AF predictive algorithm delivers high tracking performance for moving subjects and high precision AF in low-contrast lighting.
The FUJIFILM X-E5 mirrorless digital camera, set to be released late summer 2025, will be available in black and silver for $1,699.95 (Body only). It will feature the FUJINON XF35mm F1.4 R lens (sold separately), which offers comparable Yaw/pitch/roll correction performance to the FUJIFILM X-E4. Additionally, a kit featuring the newly announced lightweight pancake lens, the FUJINON XF23mm F2.8 R WR lens will be available at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $1,899.95.
