fylm.ai 1.3 Update Released – Three New Context–Aware AI Tools

The new fylm.ai 1.3 update adds new context-aware AI tools such as the AI Auto Correct and AI Colour Match. It also improves the existing AI Colour Extract tool with the same principles of “context” and “absoluteness” that can be selected depending on the creative decision.

fylm.ai is a cloud-based service for advanced color grading. As you might have noticed, a few days ago CineD launched a new LUTs builder which is an online tool powered by fylm.ai. You should definitely check it out in case you missed it.

Naturally, fylm.ai is evolving further, and recently, they announced a new 1.3 update that comes with two new context-aware AI tools and further improvements. Let’s take a closer look.

fylm.ai 1.3 Update: AI Auto Correct

The first new tool in the 1.3 version is the AI Auto Correct. As fylm.ai puts it, it is an automated image correction tool that also understands the context of the resulting video (the creative idea). For instance, the tool will know that an incorrect white balance or not-corrected highlights and shadows are part of the creative decision and it will reflect this during the automated image correction. To use the AI Auto Correct, simply add it from the Tools menu. There are basically two different options available – Favor Context and Favor Neutrality

  • When you add AI Auto Correct to your image, it will automatically correct it using the “Favor Context” option. This will perform a correction within the original context of the image. For example, if the original image is dark and cold, AI Auto Correct will try to preserve that feeling when correcting it. Usually, you would want to use this option when you want to retain the original atmosphere of the image which is based on a creative intent.
  • Another option is the “Favor Neutrality” which results in an absolute correction. For example, if the original image is dark and cold, AI Auto Correct will brighten the image and make it warmer to create a neutral result. Usually, you would want to use this option when working with materials that were shot with incorrect settings for the shooting conditions.

AI Colour Match

Another new tool in fylm.ai is the AI Colour Match which should help with automatic color matching across your footage. Just like the AI Auto Correct, it also offers two options:

  • Favor Context“ option will extract a color grade within the original context of the user’s image and the Match. For example, if the original image is bright, AI Colour Match will try to preserve that feeling when extracting the grade from a Match. Usually, you would want to use this option when you want to retain the original atmosphere of the image which is based on a creative intent.
  • Favor Absoluteness“ option makes the AI Colour Match extract a color grade while favoring the context of the Match. For example, if the original image is bright, but the Match is dark, AI Colour Match will darken the image so it more closely resembles the Match. Usually, you would want to use this option when you want to resemble the appearance of the Match more closely.

Improved AI Colour Extract

Last but not least, the new update of fylm.ai introduces improvements to the AI Colour Extract tool. According to fylm.ai, the AI model of the Colour Extract mode was retrained and the same principles of “context” and “absoluteness” were applied.

  • When using “Favor Context“, AI Colour Extract will extract a color grade within the original context of the user’s image and the Match. For example, if the original image is bright, AI Colour Extract will try to preserve that feeling when extracting the grade from a Match. Usually, you would want to use this option when you want to retain the original atmosphere of the image which is based on a creative intent.
  • Favor Absoluteness“ will make the tool extract a color grade while favoring the context of the Match. For example, if the original image is bright, but the Match is dark, AI Colour Extract will darken the image so it more closely resembles the Match. Usually, you would want to use this option when you want to resemble the appearance of the Match more closely.
