GoPro has unveiled three products that broaden its ecosystem for creators and action sports users alike: the flagship MAX2 with true 8K 360 capture, the ultra-compact LIT HERO lifestyle camera with a built-in light, and the Fluid Pro AI three-axis gimbal with subject tracking.
With DJI and Insta360 currently challenging each other head-to-head not only with drones, but also in tiny action cams (Insta360 GO ULTRA vs. DJI Osmo Nano), normal action cams (Insta360 Ace Pro 2 vs. DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro β watch review), and even 360 cameras (Insta360 X5 vs. DJI Osmo 360), the historical “king of action cameras,” GoPro, is caught in the middle with little new to show lately. Yet just on the heels of DJI’s announcement of the Osmo Nano, they came out with three new products:
GoPro positions this trio to cover very different capture scenarios, from professional 360 reframing and VR-adjacent workflows to simple point-and-shoot clips and stabilized solo shooting. The company is clearly aiming to support both advanced users who demand post-production flexibility and casual shooters who want quick, polished results without technical hurdles (especially with the LIT HERO and their new gimbal).
MAX2 is billed as the only true 8K 360 action camera, with GoPro claiming 21% more native resolution than competing 360 cameras. For filmmakers, that resolution overhead translates to cleaner 4K reframes, more flexible crops, and fewer aliasing artifacts when punching in. The camera records 10-bit color and offers GP-Log for grading latitude, plus an optional GoPro Labs firmware that unlocks bitrates up to 300 Mbps for more robust compression. A six-microphone array aims for more realistic spatial audio, and MAX2 retains a rugged, waterproof build with cold-weather Enduro power.
Twist-and-go replaceable, water-repellent lens protectors reduce downtime in harsh environments, while new in-camera POV and selfie video modes let you capture fixed perspectives without post reframing. MAX2 also brings built-in GPS, cloud-based editing for subscribers, and a growing set of 360-specific mounts intended for invisible pole shots and drone-like perspectives.
GoPro LIT HERO targets quick, social-ready capture with minimal setup. About the size of an AirPods case, it records 4K60 video with 2x slo-mo and 12 MP photos, and integrates a three-level LED with diffuser for low-light or stylized βretro vibesβ looks. A 4:3 capture option helps preserve vertical framing options when cropping to 9:16 for social posts, and the Enduro power pack is rated for more than 100 minutes of continuous 4K60 capture. The camera is waterproof to 5 m and supports magnetic latch mounting, a 1/4-20 thread, and GoProβs accessory ecosystem.
Fluid Pro AI is a three-axis gimbal with interchangeable mounts that supports GoPro cameras, smartphones, and compact point-and-shoots up to 400 g. Its AI subject tracker can face forward or backward to follow a personβs face or body, useful for solo walk-and-talks or action pieces where you cannot operate the gimbal and frame simultaneously. An integrated fill light helps balance mixed lighting, and the unit is rated for up to 18 hours of operation, with power bank functionality included.
GoPro Subscription perks remain central to the ecosystem, including AI-edited highlights and unlimited cloud storage at full quality, with accessories and mounts expanding around the new form factors.
