Insta360 GO 2 64GB Edition is Available - Internal Storage Doubled

Insta360 GO 2 64GB edition, as its name implies, brings a doubled internal storage (from 32GB to 64GB). There are no other changes to the camera. The Insta360 GO 2 64GB edition is available now for $330.

Announced in March 2021, the Insta360 GO 2 caught our attention with a nice combination of image quality, electronic stabilization, and a tiny body weighing only 27g. The camera features a square sensor and ultra-wide-angle lens. Thanks to Insta360’s FlowState stabilization, it does not matter how the camera is oriented. The FlowState can be locked to the horizon. Today, Insta360 launches a new 64GB edition of the camera.

There is not much to write about the new change as it is kind of self-explanatory. The doubled storage is the only thing that changed from the original Insta360 GO 2. For all the specs and features of the camera, please refer to this article about the Insta360 GO 2. Having used the camera quite a lot for the past months, I welcome the larger storage very much.

More than once, I was in a situation when I could not continue filming because the internal 32GB storage was full. Offloading the footage to a phone seemed not an optimal solution, so I just had to finish filming and go home to offload the footage to a computer. I would even make use of a 128GB internal storage, but I think most people will be fully covered with the 64GB.

Now, the actual available storage will, of course, be a bit less as the camera’s system also eats up some of that space. In the case of the 32GB version, the actual available storage is 28GB, so that means roughly 4GB is taken by the camera’s system. If that remains the same with the new 64GB version, that will give us 60GB of usable storage. That would even be slightly more than double usable storage in the end.

I wonder how this new 64GB version will optically differentiate itself from the 32GB version. Insta360, unfortunately, does not say anything about it. My guess is that there will only be an extra “64GB” written on the charging case and on the back of the camera unit.

DJI should get inspired by this move

I really really REALLY wish DJI too included larger built-in storage in the new Action 2 camera, which I reviewed only a week ago. Check my review here in case you haven’t seen it yet. I think that the 32GB internal storage (22.4GB actual available storage) in the DJI Action 2 really limits the camera in case you want to use it without any expansion module. We will see if DJI also brings an updated version with more storage. 128GB would be so nice to have.

Price and availability

Insta360 GO 2 64GB Edition is available to purchase now. The retail price has been set to $329.99 which is currently $30 more than what the original 32GB version of the Insta360 GO 2 sells for. I think that is a no-brainer and I don’t see any reason to buy the smaller storage version anymore given such a small price difference. The camera comes with an included Charge Case, three mounting accessories (Magnet Pendant, Easy Clip, and Pivot Stand), and a Lens Guard.

Do you film with the Insta360 GO 2? What do you think about the new 64GB version? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below.
