Insta360 GO 2 Announced – Tiny 27g Camera with FlowState and 1440p50 Video

The Insta360 GO 2 camera weighs 27g (0.93oz), it is IPX8 waterproof and comes with charging case, replaceable protective lens, and more accessories. It offers up to 2560×1440 video with 50fps and FlowState stabilization. The camera is available now for $299.99.

In August 2019, the Chinese camera manufacturer Insta360 launched the first generation Insta360 GO. With only 18.3 grams (0.65oz) and the Flowstate stabilization included, the company advertised it as the world’s smallest stabilized camera. Today, Insta360 announced the second generation – let’s take a quick look at the features and specs of the Insta360 GO 2.

Insta360 GO 2

Just like the first generation Insta360 GO, the new camera is also very small, although it grew slightly in size and weight. The GO 2 weighs 27g (0.93oz) and its dimensions are 52.9 x 23.6 x 20.7mm (2.08 x 0.93 x 0.81″). The camera features a magnet that can attach to the magnet pendant so it can be mounted directly on a T-shirt for instance.

Insta360 GO 2 uses a square-shaped 1/2.3″ image sensor and an f/2.2 lens with 11.24mm focal length (full-frame equivalent). There are two FOV settings available – “Ultra Wide” with 120° or “ActionView” with 110°. It can capture photos with a max resolution of 2000×2000 pixels. This is slightly less than what the first generation could do – 2560×2560. The GO 2 can capture these photos in DNG or INSP format.

When it comes to video capture, the camera produces MP4 files with H.264 codec and 80Mbps bitrate. It can deliver the following resolutions and framerates:

  • 2560×1440 at 50fps, 30fps, 25fps, 24fps
  • 1920×1080 at 120fps, 50fps, 30fps, 25fps, 24fps

The FlowState stabilization and horizon-leveling algorithms are included for smooth footage – it works only up to 50fps. For slow-motion clips, the camera can capture up to 120fps in Full HD. Hyperlapse with up to 6x speed is also possible. Nightlapse function can help with the right interval and exposure when shooting a timelapse (available at 0.5s, 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, 30s, 60s, 120s intervals) at night.

The Insta360 Go 2 has a 32GB internal storage (around 28GB are usable). With the built-in 210mAh battery, the camera can capture up to 30 minutes of video. When using FlowState, it is less – around 10 minutes. For extended recording times, the camera needs to be inserted into the charge case – more on that later.

Thanks to the IPX8 certification, the Insta360 GO 2 is waterproof up to 4m (13ft) depth. It also now has a scratch-proof lens guard from a hardened glass. It is attached via a screw so it can be replaced at any time. It can also be swapped out with an ND filter.

Charge Case and more accessories

The included charge case (weighing 63.5g / 2.24oz) can charge up the camera’s internal battery in half an hour. When in this case, the Insta360 GO 2 can film for up to 150 minutes. The case also doubles as a remote, a tripod, and a handheld grip, and it also has a 1/4″ mounting thread to attach accessories like a selfie stick for instance. The charge case also includes a Bluetooth connection so it can control the camera from up to 10m (33ft) away.
