Interview – Adobe Premiere Pro, Direct Editing From the Cloud, Premiere for Mobile, and More

October 30th, 2025Jump to Comment Section1

Adobe continues to evolve its pro video ecosystem with new AI-driven tools, a redesigned mobile editing app, and a deep commitment to ethical AI development. At Adobe MAX 2025, I spoke with Meagan Keane, Director of Product Marketing for Adobe’s Pro Video software, about how these updates are shaping the future of filmmaking workflows.

Here at Adobe MAX 2025, we had the opportunity to talk to Meagan Keane and learn more about the direction Adobe is taking with its well-established Adobe Premiere Pro, alongside the introduction of a new mobile version. Meagan emphasized that AI has been part of Premiere Pro for nearly a decade, powering tools such as Auto Reframe, Auto Ducking, and Auto Color. What has changed, she explained, is the introduction of generative AI. According to Meagan, many of the current developments, like Enhanced Speech, were a direct response to users asking for the Adobe Podcast technology inside Premiere.

Premiere Pro: AI assistant, not a replacement for human touch

While some creators worry AI might replace the human touch, Meagan clarified that Adobe’s goal is to amplify creativity, not automate it. Generative features like Generative Extend are meant to fix imperfect shots or fill missing frames—tasks that support rather than replace editorial decisions. In other words, even when creators use generative tools, their personal perspective defines what makes a piece engaging.

Premiere Mobile: Editing on the go

Adobe’s new Premiere Mobile app—launched in late September, and according to Meagan, has already attracted over a million users. Unlike previous mobile efforts such as Premiere Rush, the app has been rebuilt from the ground up for professional use. It supports unlimited video and audio tracks, smooth performance, and features that mirror desktop Premiere Pro’s design. Adobe’s goal was to help people record, edit, add captions, and publish videos directly from their phones. An Android version is in active development, with a pre-release waitlist already available. On top, projects started in Premiere Mobile can also be opened in Premiere Pro desktop, enabling cross-device workflows.

Frame.io and cloud workflows

Editing directly from the cloud when connectivity allows is something that we have been asking for forever, so while Meagan declined to confirm specific plans, it seems as if this feature is just around the corner. So in summary, Frame.io remains central to Adobe’s collaborative post-production ecosystem, but future editing capabilities within the platform have not been publicly detailed.

Public beta and ongoing updates

While working on our Nikon ZR camera review, the Adobe Premiere beta version turned out to be a “lifesaver”, simply because of being able to support the camera’s new .R3D NE RAW files. This is why I was interested in learning a bit more about how Adobe is pushing different updates. Meagan highlighted Adobe’s Public Beta program as a key part of development. Features such as AI Object Mask, Vector Shape Masking, and significantly faster tracking performance are being tested there before general release. She also mentioned that Adobe updates the beta daily or every few days, though detailed change logs are primarily shared through community beta forums.

Summary

All in all, my feeling is that Adobe is walking a little bit on “thin ice” here, as while some of the tools they just introduced are very useful, it remains to be seen if those tools will only aid creators, as they intended to be, or simply make some professionals look elsewhere for a steady income.
