Panasonic expands its creator ecosystem with two major app updates: LUMIX Lab 2.0 now introduces an AI-driven Magic LUT tool, while LUMIX Flow 1.3 brings new monitoring and storyboard features to compatible cameras. Both updates aim to make color creation and on-set collaboration more accessible to filmmakers and hybrid shooters.

While Panasonic’s LUMIX cameras have long been known for their strong color science and user control, the company’s recent focus extends beyond hardware. The new app releases for LUMIX Lab and LUMIX Flow push more of the creative process onto mobile devices.

LUMIX Lab 2.0 introduces Magic LUT: AI-generated looks from a single image

The key addition in LUMIX Lab 2.0 is Magic LUT, a new AI tool that automatically creates a LUT (look-up table) from any reference photo. Select an image – whether shot on a Lumix body, another brand’s camera, or even a smartphone – and the app analyzes its colors and tones to generate a matching LUT. Users can then adjust intensity or modify individual parameters before exporting it to their camera.

Once transferred, the LUT can be used directly with the Realtime LUT feature found in cameras such as the LUMIX S5 II (our review here) and LUMIX S9, allowing creators to preview their intended grade in-camera while shooting. For filmmakers who prefer to work with a defined visual language from the outset, this could shorten the path from idea to finished look.

Unlike traditional desktop LUT creation, Magic LUT automates the process of creating a look by mimicking an existing one. That could mean faster delivery for social content or documentary work where turnaround time matters more than deep post flexibility.

Democratizing color workflows – Magic LUT can create LUTs for any camera

Panasonic says about half of current LUMIX Lab users are working with older LUMIX models – or even cameras from other brands – which suggests the company is deliberately opening its ecosystem. Since Magic LUT works on images from any source, it’s a rare move from a camera manufacturer that encourages creative cross-pollination rather than locking users into proprietary tools.

Beyond the new AI feature, LUMIX Lab continues to serve as an all-in-one companion app: users can create or download LUTs from a library of over 40 contributing colorists, remotely control their camera, or quickly transfer media for social sharing. The aim is clear: to bridge the gap between professional camera output and mobile-first workflows without the friction of desktop transfers.

LUMIX Flow 1.3: bridging preproduction and set monitoring

Alongside Lab 2.0, Panasonic also rolled out LUMIX Flow 1.3, a production app focused on planning and on-set visualization. It now supports up to four mirrored devices, a vertical interface for smartphone-first creators, and real-time LUT view assist when connected to compatible cameras like the LUMIX S5 II, S5 II X, or GH7.

Filmmakers can sketch basic storyboards, manage shot lists, and tag takes directly from their phones. The app’s exported XML files can then automatically organize footage inside major NLEs such as DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro, preserving storyboard order and significantly reducing post-sorting time.

While the concept recalls third-party tools like Cadrage, Shot Designer or Artemis, Flow’s advantage lies in its tight camera integration and live monitoring. The addition of AF frame display, frame markers, and LUT view assist turns it into a practical on-set companion rather than just a planning app.

Availability and context

Both LUMIX Lab 2.0 (iOS App Store link, Android Google Play link) and LUMIX Flow 1.3 (iOS App Store link, Android Google Play link) should be available starting today, October 20.

Together, they represent Panasonic’s continued effort to modernize its ecosystem, unifying planning, capture, and color finishing across mobile devices.
