Matthews Studio Equipment has introduced the MICROGrip Master Rigging Kit, bundling their miniature MICROGrip components into a single, portable package. The new kit brings together a range of small, versatile rigging tools in one convenient case, built for modern production needs.

While individual MICROGrip parts like the MICROGrip Head and Plates have been available for some time, this is the first time Matthews has offered them together in a comprehensive kit. The result is a compact, organized solution designed to support smaller lights, cameras, and accessories for today’s faster, more mobile productions.

The MICROGrip Master Rigging Kit feels like a natural extension of that trend, providing filmmakers and photographers with lightweight, flexible rigging options that better match the size of modern gear.

What is the Matthews MICROGrip Master Rigging Kit?

The MICROGrip Master Rigging Kit bundles 148 components into a durable Craftsman carrying case, aiming to cover a wide variety of mounting needs. It is designed specifically for lightweight setups where a full-sized grip package would be overkill.

The kit covers most basic small-rigging needs without having to hunt for parts individually. It is a practical set for quickly building lightweight rigs, small mounts, or making adjustments on the fly.

MICROGrip plates

The kit includes two MICROGrip Plates to help expand mounting possibilities. The Standard MICROGrip Plate has an array of evenly spaced holes for nails or screws, allowing stable mounts to surfaces like wood, tables, or set pieces.

The Nail-On MICROGrip Plate features a T-cutout that works with the MICROGrip Head. This T-cutout lets users tilt and position attached gear with greater articulation, without needing additional adapters.

New MICROGrip head

Matthews updated the MICROGrip Head with some practical new features. It now includes dual 3/8” holes for better rod mounting options and a slimmer tightening knob. This low-profile design makes it easier to work in tight spaces without sacrificing security or adjustability.

Micro pin

Also new is the Micro Pin, which features an undercut for extra safety when rigged into heads or plates. The 3/8″ pin is tapped with a 1/4″-20 thread, making it directly compatible with most small lights, monitors, and camera accessories without extra hardware.

Additional accessories

Along with the core rigging pieces, Matthews packed the kit with a full range of smaller mounting tools:

• MiniMatthellinis – for clamping onto smaller objects and surfaces.
• Drop Ceiling Scissor Mounts – for lightweight overhead setups.
• Micro Magnets – for mounting onto metal structures.
• Baby Pins – to adapt fixtures and heads.
• BM1 Bulb Mounts – for integrating wireless bulbs.
• Safety cables – for overhead protection.
• A full range of bolts, washers, and hardware for customization.

Every piece is designed to be lightweight but still strong enough to trust on set, whether you are working indoors or out.

Where it fits

There is a little irony in how much gear today keeps shrinking, but we are still dragging around heavy stands built for 1980s studio lights. At some point, it starts to feel like you are rigging a Barbie Dream House™ with industrial scaffolding.

This is where the MICROGrip Master Rigging Kit actually feels relevant. As someone who has lit entire interview setups and quick b-roll shoots using nothing more than 5 to 8 Aputure MC lights, a smaller, more flexible rigging system like this would have been a huge help. Being able to mount small lights securely without leaning on full-sized C-stands would save space, weight, and a lot of hassle.

The MICROGrip Master Rigging Kit gives users the right size tools for the right size gear — something the industry honestly needs more of. It is not a replacement for traditional grip gear, but it finally feels like an acknowledgment that not every project is a two-ton feature shoot.
