Poll: Does Sensor Size Influence your Mirrorless Camera Purchasing Decision?

At first glance, this might seem like an easy question to answer—but when you think about it, is it possible that your favorite camera brand doesn’t actually make a model with the sensor size you were originally planning to buy? Or maybe the lenses you already own are what’s holding you back from purchasing the camera with the sensor size you’ve always wanted?

It’s a great time to be a filmmaker. So many products we were hoping for in the past are finally available with different features, different shapes and sizes, and at prices that were unheard of just a few years ago. Now, most of the popular mirrorless cameras out there will have one of these sensor sizes: 1-inch, Micro Four Thirds, APS-C, Full-Frame, or Large format.

OK. Moving forward, we’re curious to find out whether sensor size ever influenced your decision to buy a camera, especially when it comes to filming with a mirrorless setup? For example, have you ever passed on buying a FUJIFILM camera because they don’t offer a full-frame option? Or, did the absence of a Panasonic LUMIX dedicated APS-C camera make you go full-frame, MFT, or even choose a different brand? Last but not least, smaller sensor cameras might potentially have smaller lenses, making the entire camera/lens kit more suitable for street filmmaking and such.

In other words, how much do you care about the sensor size when purchasing a mirrorless camera? Could it be that you’re considering skipping the “traditional industry standard” S35 (APS-C) in favor of full-frame, or even large format, to feel more future-proof? Or maybe it’s the other way around, and you’re leaning toward a smaller sensor for the sake of mobility?
