SmallRig Pix M160 – Yet Another Pocket-Sized RGBWW LED Light

SmallRig Pix M160 - Yet Another Pocket-Sized RGBWW LED Light

SmallRig Pix M160 is a compact RGBWW LED light with 160 LED beads and a maximum output of 1350 lux (at 0.5m). It can output 2500-8500K white light in CCT mode, full color HSI mode, or 12 light effects. The 3800mAh built-in battery can also act as a powerbank. The light is available for pre-order with a handful of accessories for $99.

The market with portable RGB lights with built-in batteries is currently very saturated. We have already seen offerings from many companies – few examples might include (in no particular order) the Aputure MC, Nanlite LitoLite 5C, Rosco DMG DASH, DigitalFoto YY100, DigitalFoto W64RGB, and more. Nevertheless, the Chinese camera accessories manufacturer SmallRig decided to introduce its own pocketable RGB light – let’s take a short look at the SmallRig Pix M160.

SmallRig Pix M160 RGBWW LED light (product number 3157) is a new addition to SmallRig’s wide range of camera accessories. The light offers three operating modes:

  • CCT Mode – In this mode, the light can produce white colors with a color temperature from 2500K to 8500K.
  • HSI Mode – In this mode, the whole RGBWW range is available to get the desired color by selecting hue, saturation, and intensity.
  • Effects Mode – This mode includes 12 lighting effects to choose from, such as cop car, fire engine, ambulance, RGB fast change, RGB slow change, RGB strobe, storm lightning, paparazzi, fire & candlelight, TV, and more.

The light includes 160 LED beads with 0-100% brightness control, and CRI 95+ / TLCI 98 (I suppose this only applies to the white LED beads). According to SmallRig, the Pix M160 has a maximum illuminance of 1350 lux (at 0.5m).

The built-in battery has a capacity of 3800mAh. The light can be charged via a USB Type-C port and it has a USB Type-A port (5V/2.4A) for power output, so it can also function as a power bank. This, however, only works when the light is turned off. The OLED status screen at the back helps with navigating through the menus and checking the remaining battery level and current brightness.

The SmallRig Pix M160 is made out of aluminum alloy, weighs around 230g, and is roughly the size of a phone (158 x 80 x 12.4mm). Just like the Aputure MC, this light also has built-in magnets so that it can be easily mounted on a metal surface without any tools. There are, of course, two 1/4″-20 threaded holes on the sides to mount the light on magic arms, tripods, etc…

Price and availability

The SmallRig Pix M160 RGBWW LED light is now available for pre-order. The price has been set to $99 (around €89 plus VAT in Europe). Aside from the LED light itself, the package contains a honeycomb grid, light diffuser, ball head (761), USB Type-C charging cable, portable bag, and an instruction book.
