SWIT MINO-A Pocket Gold Mount Batteries Introduced – 140Wh and 210Wh Models, 200W Constant Load, 65W USB-C PD

SWIT has introduced the MINO-A series, a Gold Mount version of its MINO pocket batteries. The two models, MINO-A140 and MINO-A210, put the compact format of the MINO-S V-mount batteries on the mount that many broadcast and cinema cameras use. Here are the details.

We have previously reported on the SWIT MINO-S70 and MINO-S210, the V-mount pocket batteries that the MINO-A series is based on. The MINO-S line is available in 70Wh, 140Wh, and 210Wh versions. SWIT also makes larger V-mount batteries such as the OMNI series. The company positions the MINO-A batteries for compact cinema rigs, broadcast cameras, field monitors, wireless video systems and creator setups that use Gold Mount power.

The MINO-A140 has a capacity of 140Wh and supports more than 150W / 12A of constant load. The MINO-A210 has 210Wh and supports more than 200W / 16A. Both batteries have a 14.4V output, a D-tap port rated at 120W, a USB-C PD port with 65W output and 48W input, and a USB-A port with 5V / 2A (10W) output. According to SWIT, both models start at temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F), survive drops from 1.2m (3.9ft), and work with Anton Bauer chargers.

Two sizes on one footprint

The two models have the same 105 x 79.6mm (4.13 x 3.13 in) footprint and differ only in depth. The MINO-A140 measures 105 x 79.6 x 63.5mm (4.13 x 3.13 x 2.50 in) and weighs 747g (26.3oz). It holds 9.7Ah at 14.4V. The MINO-A210 measures 105 x 79.6 x 81.8mm (4.13 x 3.13 x 3.22 in) and weighs 1,056g (2.33lb), with 14.6Ah at 14.4V.

The 18.3mm (0.72 in) difference in depth gives the MINO-A210 50% more capacity. On a rig where the battery plate sits close to a shoulder pad, a top handle, or other accessories, the shorter MINO-A140 can be the easier fit. The MINO-A210 adds 309g (10.9oz) for the extra runtime.

Constant load for camera and accessories

According to SWIT, the MINO-A140 supports more than 150W / 12A constant load, while the MINO-A210 increases that to more than 200W / 16A. For rigs powering a camera together with accessories such as a wireless transmitter, monitor, or lens motor, the higher rating of the MINO-A210 gives more power headroom.

D-tap, USB-C and USB-A outputs

The D-tap port is rated at 120W (10A) output. SWIT also confirms that it can be used as a charging input. The USB-C port supports Power Delivery at up to 65W output for compatible laptops, tablets, and USB-C-powered accessories, and it accepts 48W input to charge the battery. The USB-A port gives 5V / 2A (10W) for phones and small devices on set. A four-level LED shows the remaining charge and also indicates when the USB-C and USB-A outputs are active.

Charging options

SWIT lists charging at 50W / 3A for the MINO-A140 and 100W / 6A for the MINO-A210, which the company calls ultra-fast charging on the larger model. Both batteries are compatible with Anton Bauer chargers. The 48W USB-C input also lets the batteries be charged from a USB-C power source when a battery charger is not available.

Current limitations

Both batteries are above 100Wh. Under the common airline rules for lithium-ion batteries, spare batteries between 100Wh and 160Wh, such as the MINO-A140, need airline approval for carry-on, and batteries above 160Wh, such as the MINO-A210, cannot be carried as ordinary passenger baggage and must instead be handled under cargo rules. For travel with only carry-on power, crews will need a battery at or below 100Wh, and the MINO-A series does not include one. The V-mount MINO-S series has a 70Wh model, but SWIT has not announced a 70Wh MINO-A.

Price and availability

SWIT lists the MINO-A140 at €249 and the MINO-A210 at €299. US dollar and British pound prices have not been announced. For more information, please visit the SWIT website for the MINO-A140 and the MINO-A210.
