SWIT PL-S150D and CL-M100D LED Light Panels Released

SWIT has just released two new LED light panels: the SWIT PL-S150D and the CL-M100D. The PL-S150D is a 2:1 150W bi-color studio light with astonishing color accuracy: a CRI of 97 and a TLCI of 99, according to the manufacturer. You can control it via a dedicated DMX input port but also use it on location, thanks to the built-in V-Mount or Gold Mount battery plate. The CL-M100D is an affordable 100W bi-color studio light that is fanless, and with both PowerCON TRUE1 AC power input and output ports, you can daisy chain up to 25 lights together using only one 220V light circuit. Let’s take a closer look at these new SWIT fixtures!

SWIT is a long-established manufacturer known for creating high-quality batteries, wireless video transmitters, on-camera monitors, LED lights, and, more recently, camera tripods. I recently reviewed their SWIT LC-D421 quad battery charger and CM-S75F 7″ monitor; they both impressed me.

To expand its lineup of LED lights, the company has just released two new panels: the SWIT PL-S150D and the CL-M100D.

SWIT PL-S150D features

The SWIT PL-S150D is a 2:1 LED panel that’s quite large at 54,3 × 30,1 × 5,8cm / 21,3 x 11,8 x 2,3in for a total weight of 5.8kg/12,7lbs. However, this fixture packs 1152 SMD LEDs for a massive 150W light output. The beam angle is 64°, which is fairly large, but the optional LA-GS150 40° HoneyComb can replace the included barndoors and help you control the light spread.

If we start talking about numbers, it means that the PL-S150D can output up to 5500 lux at 1 meter, according to SWIT, with a CRI of 97 and a TLCI of 99! It means that the light quality you can get out of this fixture is phenomenal, and I’m curious to check it in real life to see if it holds its promises.

The PL-S150D is a bi-color LED panel that can go from 2700°K to 6500°K, and of course, you can dim it from 0 to 100% with a non-linear index dimming curve.

At the back of the fixture, you’ll find a built-in V-Mount or Gold Mount battery plate if you want to power the light on location.

Also, you can power it out of mains power via the included AC-DC adaptor that attaches to the V-Mount plate and connects to the side of the light via a 3-pin XLR connector.

To control the light, there is an LCD screen that shows you all the essential information and two control knobs to adjust your settings.

If you want to control the PL-S150D remotely, there are also two 5-pin XLR DMX input and output ports on the left side, as well as a 5V USB-A port to power your favorite wireless DMX receiver.

Last but not least, the SWIT PL-S150D doesn’t have a built-in fan, so it is 100% silent, which is essential for studio use.

SWIT CL-M100D features

The SWIT CL-M100D is a smaller fixture with a size of 27,5 × 17,3 × 13cm / 10,8 x 6,8 x 5,1 for a weight of 5.6kg/12.3lbs, which is quite heavy! The main reason for this weight is that the fixture is nearly entirely made out of metal, which helps with heat dissipation and allows the fixture to be fanless.

The CL-M100D is a 100W bi-color fixture that consists of 100W of 2700K LED and 100W of 6500K LED. It means that the LED panel can output 100W of power at any color temperature from 2700K to 6500K. Moreover, according to SWIT, it can output 3400lux at one meter.

In terms of color accuracy, the CL-M100D has a claimed CRI of 98 and TLCI of 99, which is even higher than the PL-S150D!

At the back of the fixture, you’ll find:

  • Two control knobs.
  • An LCD screen that displays dimmer percentage, color temperature, DMX address, Group channel, and power indicators.
  • A 5-pin XLR input and 5-pin XLR DMX512 output ports. There is an USB Type-A port for wireless DMX receivers.
  • Two PowerCON TRUE1 AC connectors for power input/output. You can daisy-chain up to 25 CL-M100D fixtures on a 220V/16A circuit line.
  • There is also a 4-pin XLR DC in socket if you want to power the light of an optional V-Mount/Gold Mount battery clamp.

As you can tell, the SWIT CL-M100D is a pretty feature-rich fixture for studio use.

Price and availability

The SWIT PL-S150D is now available for €1249. The CL-M100D is also available now for €599.
