Tilta Basic Ring Grip Plus for DJI Ronin RS 2/3 Introduced

Tilta released an updated version of its Basic Ring Grip for DJI Ronin RS2, RS3 and RS3 Pro gimbals: the Tilta Basic Ring Grip Plus. Compared to its predecessor, this new version is smaller and, thanks to a new magnesium-aluminum alloy, also lighter. It is backward compatible with all the accessories you might already have. So let’s take a closer look at it!

When DJI released the RS 2 gimbal in 2020, Tilta launched an entire ecosystem of accessories to get the most out of your gimbal and expand its capabilities. Then, in June 2022, DJI released the RS 3 and RS 3 Pro gimbals with interesting new features like the automated axis locks and the 1.8″ OLED touchscreen display to control your gimbal.

In short, the DJI RS 3 has a similar form factor to the RS 2, while the RS 3 Pro has longer arms and supports the LiDAR range finder system. It means that most of the accessories for the RS 2 are compatible with the RS 3/3 Pro. However, Tilta upgraded its Basic Ring Grip with new materials and a smaller form factor while keeping it consistent with Tilta’s DJI-series accessories you might already have.

Tilta Basic Ring Grip Plus: features

The Tilta Basic Ring Grip Plus replaces the Basic Ring and Basic Ring Advanced. However, the concept and the features remain similar between the two versions.

The Basic Ring Grip Plus helps you distribute the weight evenly of your gimbal over your arms. It gives you a much wider grip which helps with overall stability. Also, such a gimbal ring allows you to mount additional accessories, like a monitor, a third-party powering solution, a wireless video transmitter, etc.

Once you add accessories to a handheld gimbal, your setup can quickly become heavy, so having such a ring can help with weight distribution. Lastly, if you use support systems like an EasyRig, it’s a must-have.

I won’t go too deep into the specifications of the Tilta Basic Ring Grip Plus, as they are identical to its predecessor, but here is a quick walkthrough:

  • The DJI RS 2/3/3 Pro battery powers the ring. This is a “cable-free” design, as all the cables are routed inside the ring.
  • The standard dual-sided handles have been upgraded to soft silicone covers, providing “anti-sweat, anti-slip, and comfortable operation.”
  • It has two feet, so you can put your entire setup on the ground or on a table to take a break.
  • It is backward compatible with Tilta’s remote control handle, lens control handle, V-Lock and Gold Mount battery plates, etc.

Simply put, the Tilta Basic Ring Grip Plus is a little bit smaller at 51x57x13cm versus 61x40x10cm, and it weighs only 1.27kg compared to 2.08kg for its predecessor.
