Godox KNOWLED MG4K Series Discussed – Compact High-Output Lighting for Professional Productions

September 25th, 2025Jump to Comment Section2

At IBC 2025, we took a first look at the all-new Godox KNOWLED MG4K lighting series. The series targets film and commercial productions with a combination of high light output and reduced weight, featuring both bi-color and full-color variants designed to match the brightness of traditional 4K HMI fixtures while maintaining portability.

Founded in 1993 as a high-tech manufacturing facility specializing in lighting and audio equipment, Godox has now become a lighting equipment expert and innovator of gear for photographers, videographers, filmmakers, and more. The Chinese company has built its reputation on developing professional lighting solutions that push technological boundaries while remaining accessible to a broader range of users.

Technical Specifications

The Godox MG4K series features a 10-kilogram light head, which, according to the company, is significantly lighter than comparable high-output fixtures. According to Davi Valente from Godox, the light achieves the same output as a 4K HMI while maintaining what he describes as an “extremely compact” form factor.

The series utilizes a 63mm COB (chip-on-board) design, which Davi identifies as the smallest in its class. This compact LED array enables crisp shadow definition and optimal performance when paired with Fresnel lenses and projection attachments.

Both models (Bi-Color and full-color) operate with separate ballasts to improve weight distribution during setup. The full-color MG4KR variant incorporates additional electronics for color mixing capabilities, resulting in a slightly larger housing compared to the bi-color version.

Production applications

Godox positions the MG4K series for commercial and film work requiring high light output, including slow-motion cinematography and daylight simulation applications. The fixtures maintain compatibility with existing Godox modifiers and accessories within the company’s ecosystem. The lights carry an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, addressing durability requirements for location shooting.

Availability and pricing

Davi indicated that the MG4K series is nearing production readiness, with factory shipments expected within weeks of the IBC announcement. Godox positions the series as accessible to owner-operators rather than exclusively rental houses, and it is such that the price of the KNOWLED MG4K Bi-Color starts at $4,299. The travel kit with Flight Case included will set you back $4,499.

The company also previewed a new color engine system called “Palette” currently in final development stages, promising enhanced color rendering characteristics.
