Anton/Bauer just released their new block battery: the VCLX LI 1600. This 1600Wh battery is IP65 rated and can power 14.4V, 28V, and 48V cameras/accessories/lights via two XLR4 and one XLR3 power outputs. So, let’s take a closer look at it!
American battery manufacturer Anton/Bauer is well-known for inventing the Gold Mount battery standard. For decades, the company has been creating high-quality and reliable powering solutions found in rental houses and film sets worldwide. Anton/Bauer makes a wide variety of V-Mount, Gold Mount, and B-Mount batteries, as well as battery plates, chargers, converters, and so on.
Last year, the company launched the VCLX lineup of block batteries with the NM2, a 600Wh rugged and silent NiMh powering solution. Now, Anton/Bauer released the second product in the lineup: the VCLX LI 1600.
As its name suggests, the Anton/Bauer VCLX LI 1600 is a freestanding 1642Wh Lithium-Ion block battery. With dimensions of 4.09 x 2.48 x 9.46″/12.4 x 6.3 x 24cm and a weight of 25.5 lbs/11.5kg, this is a relatively compact, 100% silent powering solution.
The VCLX LI 1600 features a rugged anodized aluminum chassis with over-molded end caps and handle grips. The battery has an IP65 rating, which means it is weatherproof and will be at home when shooting outdoors in remote locations.
At the top of the battery, you’ll find a 2.4″ color LCD screen to check the remaining runtime, charge time, and active power draw. The Anton/Bauer VCLX LI 1600 can power 14.4V, 28V, and 48V cameras, camera accessories, monitors, LED lights, etc.
Regarding power output ports, the VCLX LI 1600 features two XLR4 (14.4V/24A) and one XLR3 (28V and 48V/16A) ports. There is also a 5V/2A USB-A port. The company claims that the battery can support a continuous power draw of up to 850W, and it can power a fully rigged and accessorized ARRI ALEXA 35 camera rig for 5.3 hours.
The Anton/Bauer VCLX LI 1600 has a removable charger on the side of the unit. According to the company, this helps “minimize heat buildup, extend the battery cells’ lifespan, eliminate noisy cooling fans, and reduce the risk of unit failure due to component malfunction, maximizing investment longevity and equipment uptime.”
The Anton/Bauer VCLX LI 1600 is available to preorder now for $4950/€4680 and should start shipping by the end of this month.
