Astera QuikBeam Announced – Ultra-Compact Fresnel with Multiple Powering Options

Astera has introduced the QuikBeam, the newest member of its Quik family of focusing LED Fresnels, making its debut at ISE and BSC. This ultra-compact spotlight delivers the equivalent output of a 200W tungsten fixture while featuring a 13° to 60° Fresnel-based zoom range, swappable QuikBrick batteries, built-in Power over Ethernet, IP65 weather resistance, and the company’s Titan RGBMA LED engine in a package measuring just 136 x 120mm (5.35 x 4.75in) and weighing 1617g (3.56 lbs).

Astera’s Quik family has steadily expanded over the past two years, beginning with the 60W QuikSpot in late 2024 and continuing with the QuikPunch in 2025. The QuikBeam slots into this lineup as a compact powerhouse designed specifically for precision lighting applications where size and versatility matter as much as output. The fixture maintains the design philosophy that made its predecessors successful while pushing performance boundaries in an even smaller form factor.

The QuikBeam draws on decades of film lighting tradition, following the legacy of classic Fresnel “Inkies” with their bold lenses and defined beams. This new fixture positions itself as an ideal tool for precise uplighting, architectural accents, and feature highlighting across live events, film sets, and broadcast productions. The company engineered the fixture to eliminate downtime and streamline workflows, a consistent theme throughout the Quik product line.

Beam control and optical characteristics

The QuikBeam features a 13° to 60° QuikTurn zoom range, allowing cinematographers and lighting designers to rapidly adjust beam spread without swapping optics or modifiers. The company introduced a new HotBeam function that pushes beyond the 13° minimum setting, producing exceptional output and center intensity at even narrower beam angles. This capability extends the fixture’s utility for long-throw applications and tight spotlighting scenarios where maximum punch is required.

The Fresnel lens produces clean, defined beams characteristic of traditional tungsten fixtures, avoiding the harsh edges and color fringing that can plague some LED spotlights.

Power ecosystem and versatile connectivity

Astera engineered the QuikBeam around a flexible power delivery system that addresses multiple workflow requirements. The fully waterproof QuikBrick batteries snap in and out in seconds, providing rapid power swaps during long shooting days or multi-location events. Users can fast-charge these batteries through three distinct methods: via PoE (Power over Ethernet) while the battery is installed in the fixture, within the optional ChargingDock that handles up to four QuikBricks simultaneously, or through the battery’s integrated USB-C port.

For permanent installations or studio environments, the QuikBeam supports hardwired operation via Power over Ethernet up to 100 meters (328 feet) from either a PowerInjector or the IP65-rated NetBox. The NetBox provides four PoE EtherCON outputs and PrepBox functionality, enabling setup and configuration in under 10 seconds, according to the company. As an early adopter of PoE in the lighting industry, Astera combines power and data delivery in a single cable while supporting standard sACN and ArtNet control signals. The IP65-rated fixture works seamlessly with existing PoE network switches, and batteries charge automatically when connected to powered PoE sources.

Compact physical design and mounting versatility

At 136 x 120mm (5.35 x 4.75in) and 1617g (3.56 lbs), the QuikBeam represents Astera’s most compact high-output spotlight to date. The company specifically designed this fixture to maximize performance in the smallest possible package, targeting applications where space constraints or weight limits matter. The housing integrates both 3/8-inch and 1/4-inch threads for direct mounting, while the removable yoke includes integrated AirlineTrack compatibility for tripod or truss mounting via the 28/16 TrackSpigot accessory.

The IP65 rating ensures the QuikBeam can handle outdoor productions and demanding environmental conditions without additional weather protection. This weatherproofing extends to the QuikBrick battery system, allowing gaffers to swap power sources even during light rain or in dusty locations.

Color rendering and control systems

The QuikBeam utilizes Astera’s Titan LED Engine, the same color system found across the company’s product line, including the PlutoFresnel and LeoFresnel fixtures. This RGBMA (Red/Green/Blue/Mint/Amber) LED architecture delivers consistent color matching across all Astera fixtures, simplifying the workflow for productions using multiple Astera products. The company also integrated the QuikFamily’s OutputGain feature, which provides additional performance headroom when maximum output is required.

Control options span the full range of professional requirements. Built-in CRMX and wireless DMX enable cable-free operation, while the AsteraApp provides smartphone control over iOS and Android platforms. UHF connectivity, infrared remote control, and web interface access round out the control ecosystem. Users can select their preferred control method based on production requirements without needing additional hardware beyond what’s built into the fixture.

Accessories and light shaping tools

Astera developed a dedicated accessory system for the QuikBeam focused on expanding creative control. The super-lightweight Barndoors allow precise beam cutting and shaping, while the EdgeSoftener filter slips over the lens to emulate the gentle falloff characteristic of classic Fresnel fixtures. The Rotatable Elliptical Filter transforms the circular beam shape into an adjustable ellipse, useful for architectural lighting applications or selective subject illumination where a round beam doesn’t suit the application.

The accessory mounting system uses magnetic attachment points, enabling rapid modifier changes without tools or fiddly clips. This approach speeds up lighting adjustments during time-sensitive productions or live events where every second counts.

Kit configurations and availability

Astera will offer the QuikBeam through multiple configurations targeting different production scales and workflows. The four-unit kit includes a NetBox and accessories for larger productions requiring coordinated multi-fixture setups. For smaller productions or mobile crews, a two-unit backpack configuration provides essential gear in a portable package. Multiple-unit flight cases will be available through Astera distributors for rental houses and production companies managing larger inventories.
