Black Friday 2020 – Mirrorless Camera Deals

It is that special time of the year again. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are just around the corner, and manufacturers all over the world are really pushing to make the best possible offers. Here at CineD we try to plow through the myriad offers so you don’t have to. Let’s kick-start these crazy two weeks with a brief resumé of the year 2020 as well as a bunch of interesting camera deals.

The world is a different place than it was for Black Friday 2019. Back then, everything was normal, trade shows came and went, manufacturers flourished. And then the Corona virus happened. No more trade shows, everything went into the cloud, many manufacturers, small and big businesses started to struggle.

New Ways to Advertise Products

But of course innovation happened and manufacturers, established enterprises as well as small start-ups, needed to explore new ways to communicate with the customers. Online events, YouTube-based announcements, virtual trade shows were the result. And now Black Friday, that very important week for both, manufacturers and customers, is about to hit again.

Here at CineD HQ, we try to find valuable deals for you, seperate good offers from not-so-good ones and help you, our readers, to find a good deal for improving your gear and/or workflow for indie filmmaking. We try to cover all the aspects here, fully-fledged digital cine cameras, mirrorless cams, audio equipment, post production software and plugins, lighting gear, accessories, you name it.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Over the course of the following two weeks or so, covering both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, there will be a bunch of deals-related articles for you to browse through (the first one is up already, Peak Design offers up to 20% off). just be aware of the fact that some of the deals just come and go so quickly that we can’t guarantee the price listed in these articles. So make sure to double check if the price is still good value for whatever you’re about to purchase.

Cinegear is scheduled for June 2021, the NAB Show already targets October 2021 as a new date, and Photokina aims for May 2022, and , so we’re “stuck” with online marketing just a bit longer!

Camera Deals for Black Friday 2020

Let’s start this year’s shopping frenzy with some exciting camera deals I found at both B&H and CVP. These offers for today are mainly about mirrorless cameras, action cams and a few bundles, so let’s get started!

Canon EOS RP with 24-105mm f/4-7.1 Zoom Lens

The EOS R’s little brother, the Canon EOS RP sports a 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and shoots UHD 4K (and 1080p of course) video. It marks the entry-level of Canon’s transition to the new RF mount. The EOS RP is certainly a decent piece of gear but it also lacks some features: No dual pixel autofocus (DPAF) in 4K, no 24p. If that’s not an issue for your workflow, you can get the Canon EOS RP along with a 24-105 f/4 – 7.1 zoom lens for $400 less during Black Friday week.

Canon EOS R (Body only)

The Canon EOS R was the first RF mount camera and marks the beginning of a new era after decades of EF-Mount cameras by Canon. It’s not as powerful as the newer EOS R5 and R6 but if you like the EOS R, here’s a $200 deal for you.

The EOS R sports a 30.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor, shoots up to UHD 4K30 video, features C-log and is capable of outputting a 10-Bit video signal via HDMI. Read our EOS R review here (and make sure to watch Johnnies mini documentary about a wedding in India).

FUJIFILM X-T3 with 18-55mm Lens and Acessories

Next up, a great FUJIFILM deal: If you’re OK with getting an X-T3 instead of the latest X-T4, this kit will save you a whooping $500. It comes with the standard 18-55mm f/2.8-4 zoom lens, a 64GB SD card, a spare battery and a lens care kit. (Make sure to watch Johnnies mini documentary and review here).

If you don’t need the lens, you can also get just the body (with SD card and spare battery) and you’ll still get a $500 lower price. The X-T3 sports a 26.1MP APS-C X-Trans sensor and offers internal UHD 4K60p video recording in F-Log at 4:2:0 10-bit, as well as 4:2:2 10-bit out via HDMI.

Sony Alpha A7 III

This camera has been announced back in 2018 but it’s still a decent camera, read and watch our review here. If you want to dive into Sony’s Alpha range of mirrorless cameras but the new a7S III is too expensive, the a7 III might be worth a good look. It’s now $300 off which males it a bit more accessible for shooters on a budget.

The Sony a7 III sports a 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor and offers up to UHD 4K30 in S-log3 profile.

B&H: GoPro Hero9 Black

To finish off this primer on camera deals, here’s a deal on the latest GoPro 9 if you’re into action cams: The GoPro 9 is on offer for $399, that’s $50 off.

The 9th GoPro iteration offers a 23.6MP sensor and shoots up to 5K30p. For the first time, the GoPro 9 also sports a front facing color LCD screen, which should be handy when shooting a vlog on the go.

That’s all for now but rest assured that we will continue our search for relevant Black Friday deals for the indie filmmaking community. Stay safe, all the best and happy shopping!
