Blackmagic Design has released version 3.2 of its Blackmagic Camera app for iOS, introducing native live streaming capabilities to YouTube, Vimeo, and Twitch directly from your iPhone. This update also adds professional SRT streaming support for Blackmagic streaming processors and custom RTMP/SRT servers, improved external storage feedback, and enhanced multi-view remote control options for iPad and Mac users.

The Blackmagic Camera app continues to position itself as a professional camera control solution that transforms your iPhone into a “cinema” camera interface. With version 3.2, the app now eliminates the need for additional hardware or third-party streaming apps when broadcasting live content. Users can select their streaming platform, enter their stream key, and begin broadcasting in professional quality directly from the app interface.

This update addresses a growing demand from content creators and broadcast professionals who need reliable, low-latency streaming solutions in the field. The addition of SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) protocol support particularly strengthens the app’s utility in professional broadcast environments.

Native platform streaming

The headline feature of Blackmagic Camera for iOS 3.2 is integrated live streaming to three major platforms: YouTube, Vimeo, and Twitch. According to Blackmagic Design, users can now “quickly select your platform, enter your stream key and start broadcasting in professional quality” without external encoding hardware.

This implementation maintains the app’s cinema camera controls while streaming, allowing operators to adjust exposure, focus, and color settings in real time during broadcasts. The interface design keeps streaming controls accessible without cluttering the primary camera operation workflow.

SRT streaming for broadcast workflows

Beyond consumer platform streaming, version 3.2 introduces SRT streaming capabilities targeted at professional production environments. The app can now transmit high-quality, low-latency video directly to Blackmagic Streaming Decoder units or any SRT-compatible receiver system.

SRT protocol provides error correction and encryption capabilities that make it suitable for remote production, news gathering, and live event coverage over unreliable networks. Blackmagic Design positions this feature for “broadcast and production environments” where network reliability and video quality cannot be compromised.

The addition of custom RTMP and SRT server support extends flexibility beyond the three built-in platforms, allowing integration with enterprise streaming infrastructure and CDN workflows.

External storage management improvements

Version 3.2 refines external storage handling with more detailed notification feedback. The app now provides immediate alerts if external drives are disconnected during recording, standby mode, or media upload processes.

This addresses a practical concern for productions recording high-bitrate ProRes files to external SSDs connected via USB-C. Clear feedback about storage status helps prevent data loss and streamlines media management on location.

Multi-view remote control expansion

The update includes an option to select the number of multi-view angles for remote control functionality on iPad and Mac. This enhancement builds on the app’s existing multi-camera monitoring capabilities, allowing operators to customize their remote monitoring layout based on production requirements.

Additional refinements

Blackmagic Design has addressed two specific technical issues in version 3.2. The update resolves a recording problem that occurred when launching the app with auto white balance enabled, and fixes scenarios where audio monitoring would intermittently stop during operation.

General performance and stability improvements round out the release, though Blackmagic Design has not detailed specific optimizations in their release notes.
