Blackmagic Design has just rolled out Public Beta 3 of DaVinci Resolve 20, introducing a host of usability and performance improvements across text editing, keyframe management, audio sync, and subtitle support. Let’s find out what’s new in DaVinci Resolve 20 Beta 3 as the company inches closer to a final release.

One of the key enhancements in Beta 3 is improved support for MultiText layers in the Titles and Fusion pages. Editors can now assign editable names to individual text layers, making it easier to manage complex text compositions. In addition, character styling and text resizing are now applied consistently across selected layers, simplifying multi-element formatting.

The curves editor has also received attention. With Beta 3, large position changes — such as those resulting from cropping or transforms — will no longer affect the visibility of keyframes, improving the responsiveness and usability of keyframe and curve editing.

On the audio side, Blackmagic has addressed synchronization issues for subclips. In and out points are now accurately reflected for both high-resolution and proxy media, enhancing workflow consistency during offline and online editing.

Performance improvements extend to playback of timelines and clips with burnt-in metadata such as timecode, source file names, or grading information. According to Blackmagic Design, this data will no longer impact playback speed, allowing for a smoother review process when working with reference material.

Studio users: Expanded subtitle animation for Chinese and Thai languages

For DaVinci Resolve Studio users, Beta 3 includes expanded subtitle animation support for languages with complex character spacing like Chinese and Thai. Word-level animations now better respect natural linguistic spacing, offering a more polished result in localized subtitle workflows.
