The Bosma Vega H2 on the company’s IBC 2026 booth is a different camera from the prototype we saw earlier this year: the aluminum housing is now magnesium alloy, a CFexpress Type B slot sits alongside the two SD slots, the PL mount has gained a lock, and a Bosma Log profile plus external RAW recording are due when the camera ships in early October. Jeff spoke with Bosma’s Franklin Zeng about what changed, and why the launch slipped.
We covered the Vega H2 in detail at Cine Gear 2026, where Johnnie sat down with Franklin for our first look at the 6K full-frame camera, and discussed it again on Focus Check ep120. The core idea remains the same: a 6K full-frame sensor behind Bosma’s patented HVS system, which rotates the lens, mount, and sensor together so the camera shoots vertical without cropping, plus ToF-based autofocus for manual lenses and an internal optical variable ND. What has changed is almost everything around that core, and according to Franklin, most of it came from user feedback gathered at NAB, Cine Gear, and the Chinese trade shows since.
The first change is the one you notice from across the aisle. The original Vega H2 used an aluminum housing; the production version is magnesium alloy, which Franklin described as both lighter and considerably stronger. He put the weight of the housing at around 2.2kg / 4.9 lb in its current configuration, and framed the material switch as a handling decision first, since the camera is pitched at solo operators moving between handheld, shoulder, and gimbal setups.
The second change is more about trust than weight. On the earlier prototype, there was concern that a lens could work loose or come off the PL mount when the HVS system rotated the whole imaging block. Bosma has added a lock to the mount to prevent that. Given that the entire sensor and mount assembly turns 90° on this camera, a positive lock is not a luxury, and it is the kind of detail that only becomes obvious once people outside the company start handling the camera.
The Vega H2’s autofocus is unusual in that it works with manual cinema lenses, using a ToF rangefinder in the top handle together with face detection and a motor to drive focus. On the prototype, that system could only hold a single point. Franklin said the production firmware adds an area-based mode, so the autofocus can work across the whole frame rather than one spot, with the FIZ motor following whatever the system picks up. For a solo shooter using vintage or cine glass, that is the difference between a curiosity and a usable tool, although how well it tracks in practice is something only real-world footage will show.
The camera’s LCD has also been replaced. The new panel is 4.5in and, according to Franklin, reaches 1,000 nits, with better color and brightness than the original. The practical target is clear: a screen that stays readable outdoors in daylight without a hood or an external monitor. The monitor change, together with the housing redesign, is what pushed the launch back from its original summer window.
At Cine Gear, Franklin explained the decision to use SD cards as a cost measure for content creators, and told Johnnie that CFexpress options were in development. That development is done. The Vega H2 keeps its two SD slots and adds a third slot for CFexpress Type B, giving users the choice between the two media types. The faster cards are there for higher bitrates; internally, the camera records H.264, H.265, and ProRes 422.
What the CFexpress slot does not bring, at least for now, is internal RAW. Franklin said there are still concerns around internal RAW recording and that the company’s efforts have gone into the external route instead. Bosma is working with third parties so that the Vega H2 outputs RAW to Blackmagic Design and Atomos recorders, in Blackmagic RAW and ProRes RAW respectively. The target is for external RAW to be available when the camera goes to market in early October.
Alongside the RAW output, Bosma is developing its own log profile, Bosma Log, which the company also hopes to have ready for the October launch. Franklin was candid that it is still in development and that the supporting material, such as conversion LUTs, is coming. A white paper is already available online for anyone who wants to read the specification ahead of time.
Bosma quotes 14 stops of dynamic range for the Vega H2. Franklin’s explanation was that this figure currently applies to the external RAW path, and that once Bosma Log ships, the same 14 stops should be reachable in internal recording as well. As always, that is the manufacturer’s number, and internal log through a compressed codec and external RAW are different pipelines; readers should treat the two as separate claims until there is footage to compare.
The most surprising part of the conversation was a mount that was not on the booth at all. Bosma is developing an optical adapter that lets the Vega H2 accept B4 broadcast lenses, producing a Super 35 image on the full-frame sensor. The reasoning is simple: there is an enormous installed base of B4 zooms in broadcast, and a camera with a rotating imaging block, built-in ND, and SDI outputs is an obvious candidate for that market if it can use the glass those users already own.
The B4 adapter replaces the PL mount rather than sitting in front of it, and Franklin said users will be able to make the swap themselves, buying the B4 mount separately. It will not be cheap. He estimated the adapter at somewhere between $3,000 and $4,000, which puts it close to the price of the camera body itself, and reflects the fact that it is an optical system rather than a simple mechanical mount.
The Vega H2 is currently in mass production, and Franklin said the camera will reach the market in early October, with the delay attributed to the housing and monitor changes. Pricing has not been finalized. Bosma launched the camera at NAB and Cine Gear with a target of $4,500 to $5,000, and Franklin told us it will land below $5,000, most likely around $4,500, with the final figure to be confirmed at launch. The B4 optical adapter is expected to cost between $3,000 and $4,000.
