Cadrage Studio Officially Released – Pre-Production Suite Exits Early Access with Subscription Pricing

Cadrage Studio, the pre-production suite from the Vienna-based team behind the industry-standard Cadrage director’s viewfinder app, has left early access and is now officially available on the App Store for macOS and iOS. The app brings shot lists, camera diagrams, mood boards, locations, and the script into one connected workspace and requires a subscription priced at $19.99 per month or $99.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial included in the yearly plan.

If the name sounds familiar, that is because we took a detailed look at Cadrage Studio when it launched in early accessjust last month. With today’s release, the early access phase is over: the app is now distributed through the regular App Store rather than TestFlight, the free beta period has ended, and Cadrage GmbH considers it ready for production work. According to the company, the software has already been used on multiple feature films and commercials during a closed beta over the past year, so this is less a version 1.0 leap of faith and more a formal opening of the doors.

From viewfinder to full prep suite

Cadrage GmbH has been building tools for filmmakers since 2012, and its Cadrage director’s viewfinder app has grown into a go-to for cinematographers and directors, with more than 100,000 filmmakers using it worldwide. We have followed the app through its ground-up redesign and the update that added video capture over the years. Cadrage Studio extends that focus from framing shots to the entire creative pre-production workflow, and it enters a space that is heating up quickly, as Chemical Wedding’s recently introduced Artemis Studio for Mac shows.

The pitch has not changed since early access: replace the scattered mix of shared folders, documents, and single-purpose apps that prep work usually depends on with a single native workspace for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Cadrage Studio is aimed squarely at cinematographers and directors prepping features, commercials, and music videos, and the company says it adapts to the filmmaker’s own process while keeping everything ready for handoff to other departments.

The script sits at the center

What distinguishes Cadrage Studio from a folder full of PDFs is how the pieces connect. Drop in a script and the app detects scenes and characters automatically; shot lists, camera diagrams, mood boards, and locations then attach to the scenes they belong to. When script revisions come in, everything stays in sync and connected to the right scenes, which should save real time on any production where colored pages arrive faster than the shot list can keep up.

The camera diagram module lets you block scenes on intuitive overhead diagrams, placing cameras, actors, lights, and set pieces to scale, or building floorplans directly from 3D scans. Shot lists are fully customizable and connect each shot to the camera diagram of its scene, so blocking and coverage planning live side by side rather than in separate documents.

Locations, mood boards, and collaboration

Location work leans on Apple’s hardware: supported iPhone and iPad models can capture 3D LiDAR room scans on a scout, and scans from third-party apps can be imported as well. Each shooting location holds reference photos and notes, ready for the whole team. Mood boards collect images, videos, animated GIFs, and links, and export for presentations to keep the visual language consistent across crew, agency, and client.

Projects sync across macOS and iOS devices via iCloud and can be shared with team members. Alternatively, the app runs fully offline, which brings us to the aspect Cadrage GmbH is clearly proudest of.

Privacy by design, no AI training

All confidential pre-production data stays on the user’s own device and in their private iCloud account. Cadrage GmbH does not store project files on its own servers, and the company states that user data is never used for AI training. For productions operating under strict NDAs, this on-device approach is a genuine differentiator against web-based pre-production platforms, where the script and prep materials necessarily live on someone else’s infrastructure. As always, such claims are the company’s own, but the architecture itself, a native app with iCloud sync and full offline capability, backs up the premise.

One practical note from our earlier coverage still applies: the app requires macOS 26, iOS 26, or iPadOS 26 or later, so older devices are left out for now.

Price and availability

Cadrage Studio is available now on the App Store for macOS and iOS. The subscription costs $19.99 per month or $99.99 per year, and the yearly plan comes with a 7-day free trial. The team says upcoming features are being developed with input from filmmakers already using the app on set. More information is available on the Cadrage Studio website.
