Cine Gear 2020 is officially still going ahead in June. But the organizers are already planning ahead in case it needs to be pushed to later in the year.
Cine Gear may well be much smaller than other expos like NAB, but it is a very different show focusing particularly on production technology, and one that is the highlight of a lot of people’s calendar. The show, which is held on the grounds of Paramount Studios, is very much a cinematographer’s and filmmaker’s show compared to the very broadcast focussed NAB. With much of it held outside on what is effectively a film set, the show is a more unique experience.
Officially the show is still going ahead on June 4-7th, although with the Coronavirus situation in the US currently, this is now looking increasingly unlikely to happen.
Cine Gear 2020 Contingency
In an announcement on the official website, the organizers have stated that they are exploring opportunities to push the show back to much later in the year. Something that may give a glimmer of hope that not everything is lost!
Note that this is not a firm plan. Understandably, there are a lot of variables that will affect whether this will be possible if the original show in June is cancelled. But it is good to see that the show organizers are keeping the flame alive and ready to go, should the current situation change.
We can only hope this will be possible. With the loss of NAB as well as other major shows, manufacturers have had to find alternative means by which to launch new products, usually via online keynotes. We are also trying to give manufacturers a possibility to expose their new productions and solutions by preparing our Virtual Show (details here in case you missed the announcement). Whilst it is all very well watching an online stream, you still can’t beat meeting people face to face and actually placing your hands on real equipment.
