Chinese manufacturer CineGearFactory recently released the BP2 19mm lightweight studio bridge plate, compatible with standard ARRI dovetails. The bridge plate adaptor features a universal design compatible with every mirrorless/cinema camera, including RED, ARRI, Canon, and Sony high-end camera models. So let’s take a closer look at all the features of this lightweight bridge plate system!
CineGearFactory is a Chinese cinema-oriented reseller that also manufactures video lights, camera accessories and heavy-duty grip equipment. It’s evident that the company is aiming at the cinema market and high-end productions that are shooting with cameras that are not lightweight.
Indeed, when it comes to rigging a mirrorless or cinema camera, you can choose between two rod standards: 15mm and 19mm. The 15mm rod standard is lighter and very popular amongst independent filmmakers. The 19mm “studio” rod standard is much more heavy-duty and what you’ll find on most feature film sets worldwide.
The new CineGearFactory BP2 19mm lightweight studio bridge plate is designed to reduce your rig’s weight while giving you access to the robust 19mm rod ecosystem.
The CineGearFactory BP2 consists of three components: a bridge plate adaptor, a 12″ ARRI Standard dovetail plate, and two 40cm long 19mm rods. All pieces are made from high-impact aluminum alloy. There are numerous cutouts on the bridge plate adaptor and dovetail plate to make them as light as possible, while a hard-anodized treatment should make them robust.
The bridge plate adaptor is where you’ll mount your camera and 19mm rods. Multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 holes on the bridge plate adaptor should accommodate most camera packages on the market.
The 12″ ARRI Standard dovetail plate also features multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points and is natively compatible with some tripod heads like the O’Connor 2575D/2560 or the Cartoni Maxima, for example.
A lever on the bridge plate lets you slide your camera package back/forth on the dovetail to balance your tripod precisely. A safety pin prevents the bridge plate from slipping out on the ARRI Standard dovetail.
However, compared to other solutions on the market from, let’s say, Bright Tangerine, you can’t “pop” your rig on and off quickly; you’ll have to make it slide on the dovetail.
The CineGearFactory BP2 19mm lightweight studio bridge plate is available now for $680. As a direct comparison, the Bright Tangerine Left Field 19mm Studio QR bridge plate kit retails for $690 without an ARRI standard dovetail.
