Photographers and filmmakers who work with different camera systems and lenses often find themselves sorting through a tangle of mismatched lens caps. I know I do. Enter the Uni LensCap – a single, stretch-fit solution that adapts to nearly every DSLR and mirrorless lens in the 60 to 90mm diameter range, including lenses with hoods or filters attached. Let’s take a closer look.
Lens caps aren’t usually where you expect to find innovation, but they’ve seen some creative rethinking in recent years. The PolarPro Defender Pro, for instance, includes slots for an AirTag or memory card. Other brands have leaned into silicone designs for stretch and grip. But what seems to make the Uni LensCap stand out is its simplicity: a universal fit for 60–90mm lenses, tear-resistant materials, and a shock-diffusing ridge, all developed with input from working photographers.
The Uni LensCap has a flat-top profile that shields the lens face from direct impact. Around the edge, a ribbed structure called the Impact Guard Ridge helps diffuse shock, adding a second layer of defense. The cap is molded from a tear-resistant material that stays flexible without losing its shape, and inside, a reinforced retention ring grips the lens barrel securely.
Designed to fit 60–90mm lenses, it stretches to cover most DSLR and mirrorless barrels, including those with hoods or filters. It’s water- and dust-resistant, easy to clean, and handles temperature swings well. I was a little put off by the bright blue finish until I learned it’s there for a reason – it’s easier to spot in a packed gear bag or when you’re working in low light.
When you see the Uni LensCap, you might think, “have I seen this before”? The short answer: Yes, you have. There’s the KUVRD Universal Lens Cap that ran a successful Kickstarter in 2017 (our report here), and then the Pelican Outdoor Rugged Lens Covers in 2021 (our report here).
Anyone who’s tired of losing caps or dealing with a drawer full of mismatched ones. The Uni LensCap holds firm without slipping, doesn’t warp, and won’t pop off when your bag gets bumped. It’s for those moments when you don’t have time to think about which cap fits what.
The Uni LensCap is available now through DIYPhotography’s website and on Amazon. The introductory price is around $34.99 for a pair. For more information, please see their website.
Would a single universal cap make your kit simpler, or do you prefer sticking with brand-specific covers? Have you found a one-size solution that works? Let us know in the comments!

A camera was put in my hands at 16, and I’ve been taking photographs ever since. Before moving to Vienna, I worked as a photographer on film sets, telling stories as they unfolded behind the scenes. Since then, I’ve focused on immersive theater, both as a photographer and an actor. I am the photographer for the award-winning Nesterval ensemble, documenting the energy and atmosphere of their performances. I’m a teller of stories. Stories hold my interest. I’ll take on any project with a story to tell.
