Libec NX-200MQC Released - With new NH20 Head and Carbon Fiber QL40C Legs

Japanese tripod manufacturer Libec has refreshed its lightweight NX series with updated components, now featuring the NH20 fluid head paired with QL40C carbon fiber legs. The NX-200MQC mid-level spreader system maintains the series’ 4kg / 8.8lb payload capacity while incorporating design refinements for improved durability and usability. The system weighs 4.5kg / 9.9lb and operates across a height range of 79.5 to 167cm / 31.3 to 65.7 inches.

Libec’s NX series has established itself as a lightweight solution for compact camera setups since its initial launch, with CineD covering the original NH10/NH30 configuration in 2021. The manufacturer has now evolved the lineup with the NH20 and NH40 heads, replacing the earlier models while maintaining the series’ core philosophy of mobility and quick setup for reduced crew scenarios.

The Libec NX-200MQC offers an updated lightweight solution for compact camera operators requiring full fluid head functionality without the weight penalty of larger systems. It represents the entry-level configuration in this updated range, combining the NH20 head with two-stage carbon fiber QL40C tripod legs, BR-2B mid-level spreader, FP-1B rubber feet, and RC-30 carrying case. This system targets documentary shooters, event videographers, and content creators working with mirrorless cameras, DSLRs, and compact cinema cameras within the 4kg operating weight.

Counterbalance and drag performance

The NH20 head provides a counterbalance range from 0 to 2.5kg / 0 to 5.5lb based on a 55mm center of gravity measurement, with a free position plus five-step adjustment. According to Libec, this range accommodates configurations from minimal mirrorless setups with kit lenses through to more substantial builds with larger optics and accessories.

Drag control follows the same free-plus-five-step approach, utilizing what Libec terms a multilayered metal structure. The company claims this metal-based drag unit delivers smoother start/stop behavior and improved backlash control compared to plastic-based systems found in competing lightweight tripods. Pan and tilt movements operate across a +90° to -70° tilt range, with an illuminated bubble level for low-light leveling operations.

Operating temperature spans from -40°C to +60°C / -40°F to +140°F, suggesting suitability for challenging environmental conditions from Arctic to desert shoots.

Dual-mounting configuration

The NH20 head features Libec’s dual-base design, incorporating both a 75mm ball mount and flat base configuration. This allows mounting directly onto sliders, skater dollies, and other support equipment without requiring separate adapter plates. The manufacturer includes a removable spacer in the bowl clamp, which, when removed, extends the insertion thread length for compatibility with additional mounting options.

Camera attachment uses a sliding quick-release plate system compatible with Manfrotto and Sachtler head plates, with a sliding range of +/-30mm / +/-1.2 inches. The plate secures via 1/4 inch screw with a video pin, and Libec offers optional long sliding plates for extended balance adjustment. One-touch attachment and detachment provide rapid camera changes during multi-camera shoots or when switching between handheld and tripod work.

Accessory mounting includes 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch threaded holes on both the head and tripod, with the head mounting points positioned at the base to avoid affecting camera balance when attaching monitors, lights, or audio accessories.

Carbon fiber leg construction

The QL40C tripod legs utilize two-stage carbon fiber tube construction with single flip locks per leg section. Libec specifies the carbon pipes deliver the height range of 79.5 to 167cm / 31.3 to 65.7 inches while contributing to the system’s 4.5kg / 9.9lb total weight.

The BR-2B mid-level spreader maintains leg geometry and provides additional stability compared to ground-level spreaders, particularly relevant for uneven terrain or when working at partial leg extension. FP-1B rubber feet come standard, with the system accommodating optional spiked feet for outdoor locations.

The 75mm bowl mounting ensures compatibility across Libec’s head range and many third-party fluid heads using the same industry-standard interface.

System positioning and availability

The NX-200MQC sits below the NX-400MQC in Libec’s lineup, which pairs the higher-capacity NH40 head (10kg payload) with the same QL40C carbon legs. Both systems share the quick-lock leg design and dual-base head configuration, differentiating primarily in payload and counterbalance ranges.

Libec positions the NX series as a mobility-focused alternative to its HS series, which emphasizes complete balance control for heavier broadcast applications. The NX approach prioritizes reduced weight and faster deployment for productions operating with smaller crews or requiring frequent location changes.

Pricing varies by region, with Japanese retail at ¥195,800 for the NX-200MQC complete system (around $1,254).
