Megadap ETZ21 Pro Sony E to Nikon Z 3rd Generation Autofocus Lens Adapter Released

Megadap recently released the third version of its Sony E-Mount lens adapter for Nikon Z cameras: the ETZ21 Pro. This Pro version still has autofocus capabilities, but the mechanics have been improved, there is a redesigned lens release button, and you can now firmware upgrade the adapter directly via your Nikon Z camera. So let’s take a closer look at this lens mount adapter!

Megadap is a Chinese manufacturer that only makes lens mount adapters for Nikon Z cameras. In 2020, the company launched the MTZ11 Leica M to Nikon Z adapter that provides autofocus capabilities to vintage manual Leica lenses. Later, Megadap launched the ETZ21 Sony E-Mount to Nikon Z adapter that also maintains the autofocus capabilities of your Sony lenses. The company is now back with the third version of its ETZ series, which will replace the previous ETZ21: the ETZ21 Pro.

Megadap ETZ21 Pro – features

The Megadap ETZ21 Pro replaces the previous ETZ21 Sony E-Mount to Nikon Z lens mount adapter. However, both versions feature the same control chip and functionality. So what is new with the Pro version?

First of all, Megadap improved the mechanical design of the Pro version. Hence, it fits better with third-party Sony E-Mount lenses, including Tamron, Zeiss, Voigtlander, Samyang, and Sigma. Please note that, at the moment, Viltrox and Yongnuo lenses are not supported.

Next, you previously needed a USB cable to upgrade the firmware of the ETZ21. With the Pro version, you can now upgrade the firmware directly via your Nikon Z camera.

Finally, the lens release button is now entirely made of metal, making it more durable and easier to press.

Firmware upgrade

Along with the Megadap ETZ21 Pro launch, the company also developed a firmware upgrade for the ETZ21/ETZ21 Pro. Here are the key features of the new firmware upgrade:

  • Native Nikon Z camera support: Nikon Z cameras will now recognize Megadap lens mount adapters as an adapter ring so that you can use all the features and capabilities of your camera. It means that the adapter supports all Autofocus modes, including AF-S, AF-C, AF-F, Eye-AF, pinpoint focusing, and Face detection. Auto aperture is also supported.
  • Support for customizable buttons: you can now use customizable buttons on Sony lenses. Furthermore, it supports the AF/MF button on the lens body.
  • Lens brand and model information in EXIF data.
  • Compatibility with Nikon Z8 and Nikon Z9 cameras. It is also compatible with the Nikon ZFC, Z30, Z50, Nikon Z5, Nikon Z6/Z6 II, and Nikon Z7/Z7 II.
  • In-camera lens manual correction.
  • Improved autofocus performances in low-light conditions and when focusing on solid color objects.
  • Improved stabilization in high-speed continuous shooting performance.

Price and availability

The Megadap ETZ21 Pro is available now for $249, which is similar to the previous ETZ21.
