NANLITE cookie and cookie-s are new tiny USB-C powered LED lights for smartphones. Offering three levels of brightness as well as three CCT temperatures, the cookie lights have emitters on both sides – hard light with focusing lenses and soft output with diffusion cover. Weighing only 21.4g/0.76oz, the cookie LED lights are available now for $12.99.
Modern LED fixtures come in all sizes and shapes. The Chinese lighting manufacturer NANLITE has all kinds of lights in its portfolio – from powerful COB spotlights and large LED panels to RGB tubes such as the latest NANLITE PavoTube II 6CP. Today, the company launches a tiny USB-C-powered LED light for smartphone users, simply called NANLITE cookie (and cookie-s). Let’s take a short look at what the small light can do.
The new minimalistic light from NANLITE is clearly aimed at smartphone creators and regular users who often film with their phones. The only difference between the two models is the shape. The cookie is a rounded light while the cookie-s features a rectangular shape. Everything else about these LED fixtures is the same.
The lights are designed to be powered directly via the USB-C port, drawing power from the connected device. To keep the size and weight minimal, there is no internal battery. Both the cookie and cookie-s measure about 50mm (2 inches) long and weigh only 21.4g (0.76oz). There are three colors to choose from – coral pink, cyan blue, or lavender.
Every cookie light features eight LED beads on each side. Four of these are cold white (about 5600K) and four are warm white (roughly 3200K). This allows changing the output temperature. This is, however, only possible in three steps:
According to NANLITE, the LED emitters feature high color accuracy with a CRI average of 95 and a TLCI average of 98. Additionally, there are three levels of brightness. To set the light, simply short-press the control button to adjust brightness, and long-press to adjust color temperature.
The dual-sided design enables both cookie models to deliver either a hard light source (one side with visible LED beads with focusing lenses) or a bit softer output (the other side with the plastic diffusion cover).
Pressing both buttons at the same time turns on both sides and illuminates the whole scene. This can be useful for phones that support dual-capture (filming with the main rear camera and the front-facing selfie camera simultaneously).
NANLITE cookie and cookie-s lights are available now, and the price has been set to $12.99 (plus local taxes). Each cookie and cookie-s light comes with a carrying pouch that can be attached to a keychain, for instance.
